Successful Tests Carried Out for Pinaka Extended Range System, Area Denial Munitions & New Indigenous Fuzes

Successful tests of Pinaka Extended Range (Pinaka-ER), Area Denial Munitions (ADM) and indigenously developed fuzes have been carried out at various test ranges. The Pinaka-ER Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher System was successfully tested at Pokharan range. The system is jointly designed by laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) – Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune.

Schools Built with India’s Assistance Inaugurated

Under the India grant assistance, two new schools were inaugurated in the Sarlahi district of Nepal on Thursday. The two schools were Shree Bal Govind Janta Higher Secondary School at Pipariya, Kabilasi-2 and Shree Janta Secondary School at Netragunj, Lalbandi-1, as per the Indian embassy.

The schemes aim at increasing productivity by providing improved looms & accessories to the handloom weavers at 90% subsidized rates, skill upgradation through training programmes, design innovation & product diversification by engaging designers, production of varieties of handloom products, including traditional & contemporary for domestic as well as overseas markets. This Ministry promotes export of handloom products through organisation/participation in international fairs/exhibitions, Buyer-Seller Meet, Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet etc. 

Study Unravels the Genome of Turmeric

The study at IISER -Bhopal fills an important gap. Dr. Vineet K. Sharma, team leader and Associate Professor at the Institute’s Department of Biological Sciences, said their research work is particularly significant because turmeric has been the focus in more than 3,000 publications. But its whole genome sequence was not known so far.

Under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), the electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) devices at the Fair Price Shops (FPSs) are operated by the FPS dealers. Further, to ensure regular delivery of subsidised foodgrains to the differently abled and old-age National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries, with no other adult member in the household and who are not in position to visit the FPSs, all States/UTs are advised to implement mechanisms for special dispensation of foodgrains to such beneficiaries, either through home-delivery or through their nominated persons.

Increase in Export of Non-Basmati Rice

Two national institutes of rice namely ICAR-National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack and ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad are engaged in the development of high yielding climate resilient new varieties/hybrids ofrice, including red rice, which are tolerant to various biotic and abiotic stresses with enhanced quality.

Restricting FDI Inflows From China in The Strategic Sector

In order to curb opportunistic takeovers/acquisitions of Indian companies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government, vide Press Note 3 (2020) dated 17.04.2020 read with Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Amendment Rules, 2020 dated 22.04.2020, amended the FDI policy according to which an entity of a country, which shares land border with India or where the beneficial owner of an investment into India is situated in or is a citizen of any such country, can invest only under the Government route.
