A batch of 20 women who serve in the Afghan National Army is receiving military training in India’s southern Tamil Nadu state.
The cadets, who come from various branches of the Afghan National Army, such as the medical wing, logistics and special were seen holding rifles and showed their military skills at the Officers’ Training Academy on Monday, the Associated Press Reported.
“Training here is for Afghan women and it is very important because Afghanistan does not have much space for training, including military training,” said Rabia, a medical doctor in the ANA.
In the three-week program, which started on December 04, women are trained to operate arms and ammunition and other military equipment. The women are being encouraged to use the training for self-defense.
India has been one of Afghanistan’s biggest allies in the war against the Taliban, training thousands of security personnel.
The two countries have a strong relationship.
New Delhi has also played a significant role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Afghanistan.
