DroneVerse Builds Indigenous GANDIVA and TRISHUL Systems to Strengthen India’s Counter-Drone Shield

The company’s counter-UAS portfolio includes the ARJUNA passive RF detection system, GANDIVA multi-band RF jammer and TRISHUL family of portable anti-drone systems. DroneVerse says its technologies are being developed for the requirements of India’s defence forces and critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on indigenous technology and reduced dependence on foreign components.

Indian defence technology company DroneVerse is developing an indigenous family of counter-drone systems designed to detect, identify and disrupt hostile unmanned aerial vehicles, as the rapid proliferation of FPV drones and low-cost unmanned aircraft changes the nature of battlefield threats.

The company’s counter-UAS portfolio includes the ARJUNA passive RF detection system, GANDIVA multi-band RF jammer and TRISHUL family of portable anti-drone systems. DroneVerse says its technologies are being developed for the requirements of India’s defence forces and critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on indigenous technology and reduced dependence on foreign components.

The systems received renewed attention on September 17 after DroneVerse’s counter-UAS technology was featured by NDTV as part of its coverage of indigenous Indian innovation. The company told NDTV that its counter-drone solutions contain no Chinese components, an important consideration as India seeks greater control over supply chains for strategically sensitive unmanned and electronic-warfare technologies.

GANDIVA Targets Drone Communications and Navigation

GANDIVA is DroneVerse’s RF-jamming component for countering hostile UAVs.

The system uses multi-band radio-frequency interference to disrupt signals used by drones for command and control, video transmission and navigation. By attacking these electronic links rather than physically destroying the aircraft, GANDIVA operates as a soft-kill countermeasure.

DroneVerse describes the system as capable of covering multiple frequency bands used by UAVs and says its configuration can be customised according to operational requirements.

The company has designed GANDIVA for both man-portable and vehicle-mounted deployment. This allows the same basic countermeasure concept to be adapted for different roles, ranging from protecting forward military positions to mobile defence of sensitive installations.

Such flexibility has become increasingly important as small UAVs can approach targets from different directions and may operate at low altitude, making conventional air-defence systems an expensive or operationally unsuitable response to every threat.

TRISHUL Gives Soldiers a Portable Counter-Drone Weapon

DroneVerse has developed two configurations under its TRISHUL anti-drone family.

TRISHUL I is an integrated portable anti-drone gun intended to disrupt navigation, command, telemetry and video links used by hostile drones. According to the company’s published specifications, it provides a jamming range of up to two kilometres.

Rather than requiring several separate external modules, TRISHUL I has been designed as an integrated system that can be rapidly deployed by personnel in the field.

TRISHUL II takes the concept further by combining detection and jamming functions in a compact handheld system.

DroneVerse states that TRISHUL II provides omnidirectional drone detection out to three kilometres and directional jamming out to two kilometres. It incorporates software-defined-radio-based adaptive jamming and allows operators to manually adjust frequencies when confronting drones operating outside commonly encountered frequency bands.

The company also lists assisted targeting and real-time threat information among the system’s capabilities.

ARJUNA Provides the Detection Layer

While GANDIVA and TRISHUL provide countermeasure capabilities, DroneVerse’s broader counter-UAS architecture begins with systems designed to detect the threat.

Its ARJUNA system uses passive RF detection to identify radio-frequency activity associated with UAVs without transmitting its own electromagnetic signal.

According to DroneVerse, ARJUNA provides 360-degree detection and direction finding using a proprietary software-defined-radio architecture combined with AI-based spectrum recognition.

The company claims the system can simultaneously generate intrusion alerts for more than 50 drones and identify more than 300 known drone models while also detecting previously unknown UAVs.

DroneVerse says multiple ARJUNA units can additionally be used to obtain information including a drone’s position, altitude and trajectory as well as the location of its operator under supported conditions.

Passive detection has an important battlefield advantage because the detector itself does not have to transmit energy to search for the target. This can make it more difficult for an adversary to locate the detection system through its own electronic-support measures.

DRISHTI Brings Drone Detection Down to Individual Soldiers

DroneVerse is also developing a smaller battlefield-awareness system known as DRISHTI.

Unlike a larger fixed or networked detection system, DRISHTI is intended for individual combat operations. The portable passive detector continuously monitors the surrounding RF environment and provides alerts when it identifies signals associated with UAV activity.

The company says DRISHTI has been designed specifically to recognise both conventional commercial UAVs and improvised FPV drones.

This soldier-level capability reflects the changing nature of the drone threat. Small FPV aircraft can be launched from relatively short distances, fly close to terrain and attack individual vehicles, trenches, observation posts or groups of soldiers.

Counter-UAS protection is consequently moving from specialised air-defence units towards smaller systems that can accompany troops much closer to the front line.

Electronic Warfare Is Becoming Central to Counter-Drone Defence

The emergence of systems such as GANDIVA, TRISHUL, ARJUNA and DRISHTI reflects a wider shift in counter-UAS warfare.

Destroying every small drone with a conventional missile is neither economically practical nor always tactically necessary. Electronic warfare provides another layer of defence by attempting to sever the electronic connections that allow many drones to navigate, communicate with their operators or transmit reconnaissance imagery.

A conventional remotely piloted UAV may depend on a command link between the aircraft and its operator. FPV drones similarly require communication channels for control and live video, while many unmanned aircraft use satellite-navigation signals for positioning.

Disrupting one or more of these links can interfere with the drone’s mission or force it into whatever fail-safe behaviour has been programmed into the aircraft.

However, electronic jamming is not a universal solution. Increasingly sophisticated UAVs can use autonomous navigation, inertial systems, computer vision, frequency-hopping communications and other techniques intended to reduce their vulnerability to electronic attack.

Modern counter-drone defence is therefore evolving towards layered systems combining RF detection, radar, electro-optical sensors, electronic warfare and, where required, physical interception.

DroneVerse Expands Beyond Counter-UAS Systems

DroneVerse describes itself as an Indian drone and counter-drone technology company involved in the development and manufacture of FPV drones, customised drone systems, counter-UAS equipment and military training solutions.

The company also conducts tactical UAV and counter-drone training and develops specialised systems for military operational requirements.

Recent company material shows DroneVerse demonstrating its RUDRA 10 UAV during field trials for Indian defence requirements. The company says the platform demonstrated the ability to maintain control and remain over its target while operating in a challenging electronic-warfare environment.

This is an important parallel to its counter-drone work. Modern drone warfare increasingly involves both sides of the electronic contest: developing systems capable of disrupting hostile UAVs while simultaneously making friendly drones more resistant to jamming.

Indigenous Supply Chains Become Strategically Important

Perhaps the most strategically significant aspect of DroneVerse’s latest presentation is its emphasis on indigenous technology.

The company says its counter-drone systems use zero Chinese components. While this remains a company claim, it addresses a genuine strategic issue surrounding the security and resilience of defence-electronics supply chains.

Counter-UAS equipment depends on technologies such as RF electronics, processors, software-defined radios, antennas, sensors, communications equipment and specialised software. Dependence on potentially vulnerable external supply chains for these components can create security, maintenance and availability concerns.

Building more of this technology domestically therefore goes beyond simply assembling a counter-drone system in India. The longer-term objective is to create an indigenous ecosystem capable of designing, manufacturing, modifying and supporting critical drone and electronic-warfare technologies without depending on potentially unreliable overseas suppliers.

India’s Counter-Drone Race Is Accelerating

The appearance of companies such as DroneVerse is part of a much broader expansion of India’s unmanned and counter-unmanned defence industry.

Recent conflicts have demonstrated how inexpensive UAVs can threaten armoured vehicles, artillery positions, logistics networks, airbases and critical infrastructure. FPV drones in particular have dramatically lowered the cost of delivering precision attacks against battlefield targets.

India consequently faces two parallel technological requirements: developing increasingly capable indigenous drones while simultaneously building systems capable of detecting and defeating hostile ones.

DroneVerse’s approach reflects this emerging battlefield architecture. ARJUNA provides a passive detection layer, GANDIVA supplies broader RF-jamming capability, while the TRISHUL family moves counter-drone protection closer to individual troops and tactical formations.
