Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10, 2026, as India and Sri Lanka look to deepen their defence, maritime security and broader strategic partnership.
During the visit, Singh will hold consultations with the Sri Lankan leadership on a range of bilateral issues and interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Colombo. He will lead a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs.
India and Sri Lanka share deep civilisational ties and extensive cooperation in regional security, defence, trade, economic engagement and people-to-people relations. Bilateral ties have strengthened further through India’s assistance during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis and its role as one of the first responders following Cyclone Ditwah in 2025.
The visit reflects India’s continued emphasis on its Neighbourhood First policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. Rajnath Singh’s engagements are expected to further strengthen the traditionally close relationship between the two countries, particularly in maritime and defence cooperation.
