Dixon Technologies Plans Entry Into Aerospace and Defence Electronics as Next Growth Frontier

Indian electronics manufacturing major Dixon Technologies is preparing to expand into aerospace and defence electronics as part of a broader push into higher-value technology manufacturing, potentially adding another major private-sector player to India’s growing advanced-electronics ecosystem.

The strategy was outlined by Dixon Director and Chief Financial Officer Saurabh Gupta in the company’s FY2025-26 Annual Report. Dixon said it is identifying high-growth opportunities across aerospace, defence, automotive, medical and industrial electronics as it develops the next phase of its manufacturing business.

The proposed move into defence and aerospace would represent an important diversification for a company best known for large-scale electronics manufacturing. Dixon currently manufactures products across smartphones, televisions, home appliances, lighting, telecom equipment, wearables and computing devices for major domestic and international brands.

At the same time, the company has been moving deeper into electronic components and backward integration. It is expanding camera-module capacity and developing display-module manufacturing through a partnership with HKC, while also pursuing opportunities in mechanical components, enclosures and other parts of the electronics value chain. These capabilities could eventually provide a technical foundation for entry into more demanding industrial, automotive and aerospace markets.

Aerospace and defence electronics typically require significantly higher qualification, reliability and traceability standards than mainstream consumer products. Entry into the sector could therefore require Dixon to build specialised engineering teams, secure appropriate certifications and establish partnerships with defence primes, technology developers or global suppliers.

India’s expanding domestic defence-manufacturing ecosystem offers a potentially large opportunity. Increasing localisation of radars, communications equipment, electronic warfare systems, unmanned platforms, avionics, sensors and other electronic subsystems is creating demand for companies capable of manufacturing complex electronics at scale.

Nevertheless, Dixon’s interest is significant because of the scale it has already achieved in electronics manufacturing. If the company successfully transfers its experience in high-volume production, localisation and global supply-chain partnerships into aerospace and defence, it could become another important participant in India’s effort to build a deeper indigenous advanced-electronics manufacturing base.
