India highlighted its maritime security capabilities and reiterated its commitment to international cooperation during the World Border Security Congress 2026, held in Vienna, Austria, from April 14 to 16. The Indian delegation presented the country’s experience in protecting maritime boundaries and underlined its focus on building a robust and resilient maritime governance framework.
The three-member Indian delegation was led by Additional Director General Anand Prakash Badola. At the conference, India shared its best practices in handling complex maritime security challenges, including surveillance, inter-agency coordination, and the use of technology to secure long coastlines and maritime zones.
The World Border Security Congress, established in 2012, is regarded as a major international platform that brings together senior government officials, security experts, and industry leaders to discuss emerging threats, technological innovation, and best practices in border management. India’s participation at the 2026 edition in Vienna placed maritime security at the centre of its international security outreach.
The presentation also signalled India’s intent to remain an active contributor to global discussions on border and coastal security, especially at a time when maritime routes, coastal infrastructure, and sea-based trade networks are becoming increasingly important to international stability and economic resilience. This final point is an inference based on the emphasis the official releases place on maritime boundary protection, international cooperation, and resilient governance.
