In a move aimed at strengthening India’s security preparedness against emerging aerial threats, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has conducted a five-day Advanced Anti-Drone Training Programme for officers of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at DIAT, Pune. The programme was described as the first intensive, technology-driven advanced training initiative of its kind designed specifically for personnel involved in national security and the protection of critical infrastructure.
The training focused on building operational capability in counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), an area that is gaining urgency as drone-based threats become more complex and widespread. During the programme, CISF officers received hands-on training in detecting, tracking, assessing and neutralising hostile drones. The sessions were led by domain experts from DIAT and DRDO, with DIAT Vice Chancellor Dr. B H V S Narayana Murthy inaugurating the programme and underlining the growing importance of counter-drone capabilities in safeguarding strategic assets.
As part of NeGD’s broader Capacity Building project under Digital India, the programme was designed to equip officers with practical knowledge of counter-drone systems, threat response frameworks and real-time scenario handling. The advanced training modules included directional and omnidirectional jamming techniques, camera-based systems, 3D drone trajectory analysis and practical UAS neutralisation exercises, giving participants direct exposure to real-world operational conditions.
The initiative also saw active support from DRDO, while DIAT provided specialised infrastructure, simulation environments and expert faculty to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. According to the release, the programme marks an important step in enhancing the technological readiness of frontline security personnel tasked with protecting vital installations and national assets.
NeGD said it will continue working with national security agencies and leading technical institutions to strengthen advanced capabilities in emerging technologies that are critical to India’s security ecosystem.
