AgriStack’s Farmers Registry has crossed a major national milestone, with more than 9.20 crore Farmer IDs generated across the country as of March 19, 2026, according to the Union Government. The State Farmers Registry under the AgriStack digital public infrastructure is designed to cover all landholding farmers, including women farmers engaged in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, and provides them with a digital identity in the form of a Farmer ID. The registry also includes provisions for enrolling cultivators such as tenants and sharecroppers, widening its reach beyond landowners and helping create a more inclusive agricultural database.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh leads the country with 1,99,75,651 Farmer IDs generated, followed by Maharashtra with 1,31,81,173 and Madhya Pradesh with 1,04,30,155. Rajasthan has generated 83,39,049 Farmer IDs, while Karnataka and Gujarat have crossed the 60 lakh mark with 60,75,905 and 60,20,891 respectively. Bihar has recorded 46,94,398 Farmer IDs, while Telangana has generated 44,52,700. Chhattisgarh has registered 32,86,170 farmers, Tamil Nadu 34,76,396, Kerala 22,50,877, Odisha 14,70,707 and Assam 12,78,378. Smaller totals were reported from states such as Punjab, Tripura and Uttarakhand. Altogether, the nationwide count stands at 9,18,69,685 Farmer IDs.
The government said the Farmer ID system is being steadily integrated with key agricultural and welfare programmes to improve delivery and reduce friction for beneficiaries. The digital identity supports the seamless implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer schemes and is being linked to registrations under PM-Kisan, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, MSP-based procurement, access to agricultural credit, input distribution, and disaster relief measures. Officials say the registry is increasingly emerging as the backbone of digital agricultural governance, helping states identify genuine beneficiaries faster and deliver support with greater transparency.
Several states have already demonstrated practical uses of the system. In Maharashtra, AgriStack has been used for scheme delivery, AI-based advisories, credit access and disaster relief, including the transfer of more than ₹14,000 crore to 89 lakh farmers affected by Kharif 2025 crop losses within just five days. In Chhattisgarh, Farmer ID and Digital Crop Survey have been institutionalised for MSP-based paddy procurement, covering more than 32 lakh farmers in a single season. The government said this has improved ease of registration, crop verification, transparency in procurement, and the speed of MSP payments.
At a time when digital systems are becoming central to welfare delivery, the government has also stressed that farmers without smartphones or internet access will not be excluded. To ensure wider digital inclusion, existing rural support structures such as Farmer Producer Organisations, Krishi Sakhis and Common Service Centres are being used to help farmers register on AgriStack and access services. States are also holding registration camps to expand outreach and ensure that eligible farmers are not left out of the benefits linked to the Farmers Registry.
With the Farmer ID initiative nearing full-scale national adoption, the AgriStack platform is being positioned as a transformative tool for India’s farm sector, promising faster delivery of benefits, more accurate farmer records, improved transparency in procurement and relief, and stronger integration of digital governance into agriculture.
