U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi this week for talks on key security and geopolitical issues, in another sign of the deepening strategic relationship between India and the United States. After the meeting, Gor described the discussion as “extremely fruitful,” saying the two sides had covered critical concerns and that cooperation between Washington and New Delhi continues to move forward.
The timing of the meeting is significant. It comes at a moment of continued instability in West Asia and an uncertain security environment around the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, both of which remain areas of concern for India and the United States. Against that backdrop, the conversation in New Delhi appeared to reflect a growing convergence between the two countries on regional and global security matters.
The meeting also follows a series of recent high-level military interactions between the two countries. Earlier this month, Lieutenant General Joel B. Vowell, Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific, held talks in New Delhi with India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, as well as Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh. Those discussions focused on regional security in the Indo-Pacific, improving interoperability through joint military exercises, and finding new ways to strengthen military-to-military cooperation.
Taken together, these engagements point to a broader pattern: India and the United States are not just maintaining diplomatic ties, but steadily expanding cooperation in areas that matter most in an uncertain world — security, defense coordination, and geopolitical stability. As global tensions continue to shift, the relationship between the two countries appears to be growing more practical, more strategic, and more closely aligned than before.
