Jahnavi Dangeti Creates Record, Becomes First Indian To Complete NASA Programme

A second-year engineering student from Palakollu, of West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, Jahnavi was one of the 20 individuals across the world selected by IASP.

It involved an entire astronaut program that was conducted at the Kennedy Space Centre and included activities like zero gravity, multi-access training as well as an underwater rocket launch. She also got an opportunity to fly an aircraft for the very first time.

She was appointed as the mission director for ‘Team Kennedy’ where she led a group of 16 people from various nations. The team, in her guidance, launched and landed a miniature rocket successfully.

In a conversation with TOI, Jahnavi, who is also a record holder of the Indian Book of Records for being a multi-talented girl, revealed that she wants to be one of the first Indians to reach Mars.

She has also revealed that she was able to undergo the IASP program after being awarded a scholarship for the same by a Mexican company. She has also trained in open water scuba diving in various places and is also an international-certified open water scuba diver.

She added, “I am taking every opportunity to reach my dream by participating in various projects, workshops and hackathons. I have worked diligently analysing images caught by the Pan-STARRS satellite in pursuit of unexposed asteroids. Our team made 16 preliminary discoveries and spotted one provisional discovery. “
