Cross-border infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border fell in 2020 with 489 cases being recorded and 955 persons being apprehended, as compared to 500 cases and 1109 apprehended persons in 2019, the home minister told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Cross-border infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border fell in 2020 with 489 cases being recorded and 955 persons being apprehended, as compared to 500 cases and 1109 apprehended persons in 2019, the home minister told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Replying to a question, MoS(Home) Nityanand Rai said there were 420 cases of infiltration in 2018, down from 456 in 2017 and 654 in 2016. Number of persons apprehended while trying to infiltrate also fell between 2016 and 2018, from 1601 in 2016 to 907 in 2017 and 884 in 2018.

Asked if the government has taken punitive action again security personnel allegedly responsible for the cross-border infiltration, the minister replied that disciplinary proceedings are initiated and action taken as per rules, wherever a lapse on part of any BSF personnel is found.
