Bannerghatta Zoo Welcomes Another Hippopotamus

Bannerghatta Biological Park, Bengaluru on Saturday announced the birth of baby Hippopotamus in Bannerghatta Zoo on July 24.
BBP executive director Vanashri Vipin Singh said that the baby Hippopotamus and its mother ‘Dashya’ aged around 11 years are healthy and doing well.

MYSURU: Bannerghatta Biological Park, Bengaluru on Saturday announced the birth of baby Hippopotamus in Bannerghatta Zoo on July 24.
BBP executive director Vanashri Vipin Singh said that the baby Hippopotamus and its mother ‘Dashya’ aged around 11 years are healthy and doing well.

The father of the baby is ‘Naga’ aged around 17 years.
Dashya gave birth to first calf Alok on 31 January 2018 at the age of nine years. “With the addition of this calf, the present Hippopotamus population has increased to eight at BBP Bengaluru. Having surplus number of hippopotamus, we are up for animal exchange programme with other zoos,” she said.
