The Rhino 5536 appears to be based on the same truck, however there is no confirmation on the same. The IPLT Rhino 5536 is powered by a 276kWh battery that drives an electric motor with a power output of around 483bhp.

According to IPLT, the Rhino 5536 can be used for short-range hauls in the construction and mining industry. IPLT is a well-known Gurgaon-based fleet services provider. The company is now looking to step into the truck manufacturing and production industry with the Rhino 5536. This is a historic move, given the current state of the truck industry in India.

The electric vehicle industry in India is seeing rapid growth. However, all of the EV growth is happening in the two-wheeler, three-wheeler and four-wheeler industries. There has been a little EV development in the commercial space, but that too was limited to the Light Commercial Vehicle segment.

In Europe, Manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo & Scania have already brought out electric trucks. The Indian market on the other hand hasn’t seen any developments in this area. A few manufacturers like Mahindra, Tata Motors, BYD, Volvo, etc have brought out electric buses in India, but electric trucks are nowhere to be seen.

Keeping all of the above in mind, IPLT is making a landmark move by showcasing the Rhino 5536. Going by the ETAuto video, the IPLT Rhino 5536 seems like it is in the final stages of development and is undergoing road trials before launch.

However, it remained out of the limelight during its developmental phase because of its design. It looks just like a Tata LPT 2518 tractor trailer truck that we are so used to seeing on Indian roads and highways.
