VinFast Deepens India EV Push

The launch is also significant because it builds on VinFast’s local manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu. The company inaugurated its EV assembly plant at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi, in August 2025, describing it as its first facility outside Vietnam.

VinFast has expanded its India portfolio with the launch of the VF MPV 7, a premium seven-seater electric MPV priced at ₹24.49 lakh ex-showroom. The new model joins the VF 6 and VF 7, making it the company’s third India offering within a year and widening its play from premium electric SUVs into family-oriented multi-purpose vehicles. The VF MPV 7 comes with a 60.13 kWh battery, 150 kW peak power, and an ARAI-certified range of 517 km, giving VinFast a stronger position in India’s fast-evolving premium EV space.

The launch is also significant because it builds on VinFast’s local manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu. The company inaugurated its EV assembly plant at SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi, in August 2025, describing it as its first facility outside Vietnam. VinFast’s official statement says the plant spans 400 acres, while Reuters reported that the facility began with an initial capacity of 50,000 vehicles annually, scalable to 150,000 units, with India also being positioned as a potential export base.

VinFast is pairing product launches with a rapid retail and service build-out. The company said VF MPV 7 bookings began through its website and a network of 50 authorised dealerships nationwide, and it is targeting 75 showrooms by the end of 2026. On the service side, VinFast says it expects to have more than 230 workshops across India by the end of 2026, alongside ownership incentives such as extended charging support, warranty cover and roadside assistance.

The broader market backdrop explains why India has become central to VinFast’s Asia strategy. IBEF reported that India’s EV market reached 23 lakh units in 2025, accounting for 8% of all new vehicle registrations, while another IBEF industry update said electric car sales rose 56% year-on-year in October 2025. In the premium end of the market, IBEF also noted that luxury EV sales rose 66% year-on-year in the first five months of 2025, suggesting stronger headroom for newer global entrants targeting higher-value electric segments.

Taken together, the VF MPV 7 launch is more than a model addition. It signals that VinFast is trying to build a fuller India portfolio around locally assembled vehicles, broader dealer reach and a longer-term ecosystem strategy anchored in Tamil Nadu. That fits neatly with India’s push to deepen EV localisation, strengthen supply chains and turn the country into a larger clean-mobility manufacturing hub for both domestic demand and future exports. This last point is an inference from VinFast’s local plant strategy, its network expansion, and the scale-up plans around the Thoothukudi facility.
