Pune-Based N3X Labs Flies Scaled WRATH Prototype as Autonomous Aerial Programme Moves Into Hardware Testing

N3X Labs founder Shrrinath Navghane disclosed the development from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where the scaled WRATH prototype was undergoing testing. He confirmed that the demonstrator was subsequently destroyed during the test activity, indicating that the company is using experimental hardware as part of the development process.

Pune-based defence technology company N3X Labs has flown a scaled-down prototype of its WRATH autonomous aerial platform, marking an important step as the indigenous programme moves from design and simulation towards physical hardware testing.

N3X Labs founder Shrrinath Navghane disclosed the development from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where the scaled WRATH prototype was undergoing testing. He confirmed that the demonstrator was subsequently destroyed during the test activity, indicating that the company is using experimental hardware as part of the development process.

The latest development is significant because WRATH has until recently largely been presented through the company’s design, autonomy and mission-system work. Putting a scaled aircraft into flight allows the N3X team to begin gathering practical information that cannot be obtained solely through digital modelling and simulation.

WRATH Is N3X Labs’ Autonomous Aerial Platform

According to N3X Labs’ official description, WRATH is a long-endurance autonomous system intended for persistent surveillance and tactical missions. The company is developing it for operations in environments where conventional satellite navigation and communications may be degraded or unavailable.

N3X says the aircraft is being designed around vision-based terrain mapping and onboard mission logic, enabling continued navigation in GNSS-denied environments. Terrain-referenced navigation forms an important part of the concept, allowing the platform to rely less heavily on external satellite positioning during missions.

The company also lists long endurance, terrain mapping and a modular payload architecture among the principal characteristics of WRATH. Its modular approach is intended to allow different payloads to be integrated for reconnaissance, communications, sensing and other mission-specific requirements.

N3X’s broader platform description identifies WRATH as an autonomous aerial system designed for long-range tactical reconnaissance and payload delivery in contested electronic-warfare environments.

Moving From Digital Development to Physical Prototypes

The scaled flight is particularly relevant because N3X Labs has been developing a wider autonomy ecosystem rather than an isolated unmanned aircraft.

The company’s proprietary Redoubt Alpha platform serves as the autonomy-development environment behind its unmanned systems. N3X says the platform is used internally for mission rehearsal, AI validation, digital-twin simulation and continuing development of autonomous capabilities across its systems.

N3X announced earlier that Redoubt Alpha would no longer be developed as a standalone commercial product. Instead, its datasets, AI models and autonomy stack would remain internal and support the company’s growing family of autonomous platforms, including WRATH.

The appearance of a flying scaled prototype therefore represents a natural progression from simulation and digital development towards real-world validation.

WRATH Being Developed for Multiple Missions

N3X Labs has also revealed that WRATH is being developed around a flexible mission philosophy rather than a single narrowly defined role.

In an official update describing its planned truck-based launcher, Navghane said the WRATH architecture is intended to support configurable missions including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, decoy operations and deep-strike missions. The company describes the underlying concept as one platform capable of supporting multiple missions.

N3X has additionally been exploring methods of deploying WRATH from mobile launchers. Its proposed architecture includes containerised UAVs carried on high-mobility vehicles, with the objective of allowing unmanned systems to be deployed rapidly while reducing the exposure of the launching unit.

The company has described this approach as supporting a “shoot-and-scoot” operating concept in which the launcher can deploy aircraft and relocate rather than remaining stationary for extended periods. N3X has said the launcher concept remains under development.

Part of a Wider N3X Autonomous Systems Programme

WRATH is one element of N3X Labs’ expanding autonomous defence portfolio.

The company says its current programmes include the WRATH autonomous aerial system, RAV-Q autonomous ground platform and AAROH autonomous logistics platform, with Redoubt Alpha providing the underlying autonomy-development environment.

N3X Labs was founded in January 2024 and describes its objective as developing sovereign defence technologies in India for contested operational environments. The company is focusing on autonomous aerial systems, ground robotics and tactical artificial intelligence.

An Early but Important Development Milestone

The scaled WRATH aircraft should not yet be interpreted as a production-standard or operational UAV. N3X Labs has not publicly released final figures for the operational aircraft’s range, payload, endurance, speed or maximum take-off weight on its official WRATH page.

The significance of the latest development instead lies in the transition to flying hardware.

Experimental prototypes allow a development team to test an airframe, identify weaknesses and refine subsequent versions before investing in larger and considerably more expensive demonstrators. The fact that the scaled aircraft was destroyed during testing therefore does not by itself determine the success or failure of the wider WRATH programme.

What the Gandhinagar activity demonstrates is that N3X Labs has begun putting physical WRATH hardware into real-world testing, moving the Pune startup’s autonomous aerial programme another step beyond digital concepts and towards the more demanding process of flight validation.
