President Droupadi Murmu Calls for Stronger India–North Macedonia Economic Partnership

President Droupadi Murmu has called on businesses from India and North Macedonia to identify viable projects, promote mutual investment and build long-term commercial partnerships across emerging sectors.

Delivering the inaugural address at the India–North Macedonia Business Forum in Skopje on July 21, 2026, the President described the economic and commercial relationship between the two countries as a promising frontier with significant untapped potential.

The forum was attended by North Macedonia President Dr Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, members of the North Macedonian government, business leaders, industry associations and representatives from both countries.

President Murmu noted that her visit was the first by an Indian President to North Macedonia and reflected India’s strong interest in expanding bilateral engagement across areas of mutual importance.

She said bilateral trade had maintained a steady positive trajectory, while its current volume represented only a small portion of the opportunities available to both economies. Transforming the relationship from trade-based engagement into a comprehensive economic partnership would require greater emphasis on investments, industrial cooperation and business-to-business collaboration.

The President identified digital innovation, artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agro-processing and green energy as key sectors offering opportunities for investment and joint ventures.

She also invited North Macedonia to participate in the next edition of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, or WAVES, scheduled to be held in India.

Highlighting the importance of knowledge-based cooperation, President Murmu called for stronger partnerships among start-ups, universities, research institutions and technology companies. She said both countries could explore deeper collaboration in artificial intelligence, cyber security and digital innovation.

The President urged companies to move beyond short-term commercial transactions and invest in partnerships that support technology transfer, local value creation, employment generation and sustainable growth.

She also encouraged chambers of commerce, investment agencies and business associations from both countries to establish direct institutional linkages and facilitate regular exchanges of business delegations.

President Murmu expressed confidence that the India–North Macedonia Business Forum would generate fresh ideas, identify practical areas of cooperation and open new avenues for trade and investment between the two countries.
