External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has launched the logo, theme and official website for the 4th India–Africa Forum Summit, marking a key preparatory step ahead of the major diplomatic gathering in New Delhi. The launch highlights India’s effort to give fresh momentum to its partnership with African countries at a time when the Global South is seeking a stronger voice in world affairs.
The summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on May 31, 2026, in collaboration with the African Union Commission. It is expected to bring together leaders from across Africa, the African Union Commission and regional organisations to discuss the next phase of India–Africa cooperation.
The theme for the summit is “IA SPIRIT: India Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation.” The title reflects the direction of the relationship, moving beyond traditional development cooperation into newer areas such as innovation, digital technology, sustainability, capacity building and inclusive growth.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Jaishankar said Africa occupies a central place in India’s foreign policy. He described the relationship as one built on equality, mutual respect, solidarity and shared progress, rather than a donor-recipient model. This framing is important because India has consistently projected its Africa policy as a partnership driven by African priorities and local ownership.
The summit is expected to focus on several areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, technology, healthcare, education and capacity building. These sectors are central to India’s engagement with Africa, where New Delhi has supported training programmes, development projects, lines of credit, digital initiatives and institution-building efforts over the years.
Dr. Jaishankar also highlighted the growing relevance of emerging sectors such as fintech, digital public infrastructure and innovation. These areas have become increasingly important as African economies look for scalable solutions in payments, governance, health delivery, education and entrepreneurship. India’s experience with digital platforms gives the partnership a practical development angle, especially for countries seeking low-cost and high-impact public technology systems.
Sustainability will also be part of the summit agenda. The External Affairs Minister referred to cooperation through global initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuels Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the International Big Cat Alliance. These platforms show how India–Africa cooperation is expanding into climate action, clean energy, disaster resilience and biodiversity protection.
The upcoming summit also carries a strong global governance message. Dr. Jaishankar cited the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 during India’s 2023 presidency as a major milestone, reinforcing India’s support for a larger African role in international decision-making. This gives the summit wider significance, positioning India and Africa as partners in shaping a more balanced and inclusive global order.
Preparatory meetings will take place before the leaders’ summit. A senior officials’ meeting is scheduled for May 28, 2026, followed by the India–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on May 29, 2026. These meetings will help finalise key areas of cooperation and prepare the diplomatic groundwork for the summit.
Overall, the launch of the logo, theme and website is more than a branding exercise. It signals India’s intention to make the 4th India–Africa Forum Summit a future-focused platform for development, technology, resilience and South-South cooperation. With Africa’s rising economic and demographic importance, the summit could become an important moment in redefining India’s long-term engagement with the continent.
