The Indian Navy will commission INS Malvan, the second Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), on 22 July 2026, marking another milestone in India’s indigenous naval capability.
The commissioning ceremony will be presided over by Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command. Senior naval officers, representatives of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, veterans, and other distinguished guests will also attend the event.
Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi, INS Malvan embodies the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in modern naval shipbuilding. With more than 80 percent indigenous content, the vessel showcases India’s growing expertise in the design, construction, and integration of advanced warships.
Designed for anti-submarine operations in coastal and shallow waters, INS Malvan combines agility, precision, and endurance in a compact yet capable platform. Its commissioning represents the continued induction of a new generation of indigenously built shallow-water combatants, strengthening the Indian Navy’s maritime security and coastal defence capabilities while reinforcing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
