The equipment was formally handed over on October 6, 2026, at the Military Institute of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek. Indian Ambassador Birender Singh, accompanied by Defence Attaché Colonel Pankaj Sharma, presented the system to Colonel Baibalaev Azizbek, Deputy Minister of Defence of Kyrgyzstan.

India has strengthened its defence partnership with Kyrgyzstan by gifting an indigenously manufactured Containerised Tubular Shooting Range (CTSR), developed by Hyderabad-based Zen Technologies Limited, to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence. The advanced live-fire training facility will help improve the shooting proficiency and operational training capabilities of Kyrgyz military personnel while demonstrating India’s growing expertise in indigenous defence technology.

According to the Embassy of India in Bishkek, the shooting range was provided in response to a request from Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Defence under India’s technical assistance programme. The transfer represents another step in expanding military and military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

Zen Technologies’ Indigenous Shooting Range Brings Advanced Military Training Capabilities

The Containerised Tubular Shooting Range developed by Zen Technologies is a compact, transportable live-fire facility housed inside a 40-foot container. Unlike conventional outdoor shooting ranges, the system allows armed forces to conduct structured weapons training within a controlled environment, reducing the need for extensive firing-range infrastructure.

The facility provides simulated target distances ranging from 25 to 300 metres, enabling personnel to practise different shooting exercises without requiring an equivalent outdoor firing distance. Its modular architecture allows military organisations to establish training facilities in locations where land availability, weather conditions or logistical constraints make conventional ranges difficult to operate.

The system incorporates a Master Control Unit, Smart Target System, Bullet Containment Trap, Ventilation System, Visual System, Acoustic Insulation System and After Action Review Module. These components work together to support controlled live-fire exercises while helping instructors monitor training performance.

According to the Indian Embassy, the shooting range accommodates rifles up to 7.62 mm calibre and handguns up to 9 mm calibre. Its enclosed configuration also supports safe ammunition containment and environmental management during firing activities.

Smart Target Systems Support Realistic Combat Training

The Zen Technologies shooting range supports multiple firing exercises intended to improve weapons handling, target engagement and shooting accuracy. These include grouping exercises, stationary target practice, pop-up and rotating targets, timed shooting drills, annual range qualification courses and night firing.

The Smart Target System allows instructors to conduct exercises involving different target presentations and engagement requirements. Pop-up and rotating targets introduce movement and time constraints, helping personnel practise responding to changing target conditions.

An integrated After Action Review Module supports the evaluation of training performance. Instructors can use the system to assess shooting results, identify areas requiring improvement and monitor the progress of trainees across successive exercises.

The facility also offers a long operational life. Each firing lane is designed to accommodate 60,000 rounds before replacement of its chamber plates, after which the lane can return to service. This feature supports repeated training cycles while allowing maintenance of the system’s principal protective components.

Transportable Design Enables All-Weather Military Training

One of the principal advantages of the Containerised Tubular Shooting Range is its ability to provide a live-fire training environment without the extensive land requirements associated with conventional outdoor ranges.

The system’s transportable container structure simplifies deployment and reduces the infrastructure needed to establish a functional training facility. Its enclosed design incorporates bullet containment, ventilation and acoustic insulation to support controlled shooting activities.

Weather independence is another important feature. Outdoor firing ranges can face restrictions caused by heavy rainfall, snow, extreme temperatures and other environmental conditions. A containerised facility allows military personnel to continue structured training throughout the year, subject to operational readiness and maintenance requirements.

For Kyrgyzstan, where mountainous terrain and severe winter conditions can complicate military training logistics, such a facility offers practical advantages. The compact design can support regular small-arms training at designated military installations without requiring personnel to travel frequently to distant outdoor ranges.

Indian-Made Shooting Range Delivered to Bishkek in August 2026

Although the ceremonial handover took place in October, the equipment had already arrived in Kyrgyzstan several weeks earlier.

The Embassy of India confirmed that the Containerised Tubular Shooting Range was transported to Bishkek aboard a special service aircraft on August 22, 2026. The shipment followed the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence’s request for Indian technical assistance.

At the time of the October 6 ceremony, construction of the required infrastructure and installation of the shooting range were still underway at the Military Institute of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces.

Following installation, specialists from Zen Technologies are scheduled to conduct a dedicated training programme for Kyrgyz military personnel. The programme will familiarise operators with the equipment, firing-range management procedures and system operation.

The official handover therefore marks the transfer of the Indian-manufactured training facility, while its full operational use will follow completion of installation and personnel training.

India Expands Defence Assistance to Kyrgyzstan

The shooting range is part of a wider programme of Indian military and technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan, reflecting the growing importance of defence cooperation in the bilateral relationship.

Earlier, on April 28, 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gifted two BHISHM Cubes to Kyrgyz Defence Minister Major General Mukambetov Ruslan during their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek.

BHISHM Cubes are portable medical assistance systems developed under India’s Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri. They are designed to support emergency medical care and disaster response through modular medical equipment and supplies.

India also provided 24 computers to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence in March 2026, with 12 installed at the Military Institute in Bishkek and another 12 at Military Unit 36806 in Osh. The assistance included the installation of military wargaming software and training for personnel operating the systems.

These initiatives demonstrate the practical scope of India-Kyrgyzstan defence cooperation, covering military training, medical assistance, computer infrastructure and professional capacity building.

India-Kyrgyzstan Strategic Partnership Supports Military Cooperation

India and Kyrgyzstan maintain a strategic partnership rooted in longstanding diplomatic relations and shared interests in regional stability. Defence and security cooperation forms an important component of this relationship, particularly through military training, institutional exchanges and technical assistance.

Both countries participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which provides an additional platform for discussions on regional security, counterterrorism and cooperation among member states.

India’s assistance to Kyrgyz military institutions supports the development of local training capabilities while strengthening professional relationships between the two armed forces. Such cooperation also creates opportunities for Indian defence technology companies to demonstrate equipment suited to the operational requirements of international partners.

During the October 6 ceremony, Ambassador Birender Singh highlighted the historical and civilisational foundations of India-Kyrgyzstan relations and described defence cooperation as an important pillar of their strategic partnership.

The Ambassador emphasised that providing the containerised shooting range represents India’s continuing commitment to building the capabilities of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces through military and technical cooperation.

Zen Technologies Highlights India’s Growing Indigenous Defence Manufacturing Capabilities

The selection of Zen Technologies’ Containerised Tubular Shooting Range for India’s technical assistance programme demonstrates the practical applications of Indian-developed military training technologies.
