India has dispatched the first tranche of a 20-metric-tonne humanitarian relief package to Colombia to support recovery efforts following the earthquake that affected the South American country.
The assistance includes medicines, medical equipment, temporary shelters, hygiene supplies and other essential relief materials required by communities dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.
External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar said India stands in solidarity with the people of Colombia during the difficult period. The first consignment forms part of the wider 20-tonne assistance package being provided for post-earthquake recovery.
India Extends Humanitarian Support
The relief package is designed to address immediate requirements on the ground. Medicines and medical equipment can support emergency healthcare services, while temporary shelters and hygiene materials will assist families affected by damage and displacement.
India has increasingly used humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions to support countries facing natural disasters and other emergencies. The assistance to Colombia extends that engagement to Latin America and reinforces India’s willingness to provide rapid humanitarian support beyond its immediate neighbourhood.
The dispatch also adds another dimension to India–Colombia relations, with humanitarian cooperation complementing the two countries’ broader diplomatic and economic engagement.
The first tranche was announced on 14 August 2026, with India expressing solidarity with Colombia as recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue.
