The Indian Coast Guard vessel, Veera, would be commissioned on April 15 at the coast guard jetty by the Indian Army chief, General Bipin Rawat.
Veera, the third in the series of the new generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) had already reached Visakhapatnam base in the second week of March. The ship would be under the administrative and operational command of the coast guard regional headquarters (east).
The 97-meter long, 15-meter wide vessel has a 3.6 m draft and a range of 5,000 nautical miles. It can attain a speed up to 26 knots. The vessel has a compliment of 12 officers and 91 men. The ship is equipped with an ultra-modern navigation and communication system.
According to sources, the four-starred officer and army general Bipin Rawat would arrive in the Port City on April 15 in a defence aircraft. He would be accompanied by the present Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rajendra Singh, and Additional Director General, VSR Murthy and other officers. General Rawat will leave the city by evening.
