CHENNAI: Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai has started training five woman army officers from Kyrgyzstan as part of an effort to strengthen defence cooperation between India and the Central Asian country.
The training designed for women officers has been given to them to help them get an exposure to development of character and leadership traits, military competence, physical and mental stamina and intellectual capability.
The officers arrived here on April 15.
They have undergone military and weapons training, courses on tactical issues and outdoor obstacle and others as part of the programme.
OTA is the only academy which trains women to be army officers and has been training woman cadets and officers from the militaries of friendly nations, according to a press release.
OTA has trained women officers from Bhutan, Seychelles, Afghanistan, the Maldives and Uganda. The academy has so far trained 411 women officers from foreign countries.
India and Kyrgyzstan are working together to improve bilateral ties under the Indian Technical and Economical Cooperation agreement.
