The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DTDC Express Limited to strengthen parcel delivery, logistics operations and e-commerce support across India. The agreement was formalised at Dak Bhawan in New Delhi on April 27, 2026, marking another step in the government’s effort to modernise India’s logistics ecosystem through public-private collaboration.
The MoU was signed by Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager of the Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Abhishek Chakraborty, Chief Executive Officer of DTDC Express Limited, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations. The partnership builds on an existing collaboration between the Department of Posts and DTDC that began in 2025.
The agreement is aimed at combining the Department of Posts’ vast national network with DTDC’s experience in express parcel delivery and logistics management. Under the arrangement, DTDC will be able to use the postal network for nationwide parcel delivery, including Cash on Delivery services, which remain an important component of India’s e-commerce market, especially in semi-urban and rural areas.
A key focus of the MoU will be joint logistics operations, capacity-sharing, adoption of best practices in the parcel industry and better synchronisation of marketing strategies. Both organisations are expected to work toward improving delivery speed, operational efficiency and service quality. The partnership will also include quarterly review meetings to monitor progress, assess system integration and identify new areas for expanding the logistics network.
For DTDC, the biggest advantage will be access to the Department of Posts’ extensive reach of more than 1.64 lakh post offices across the country. This network gives the company a deeper delivery footprint, particularly in remote and underserved areas where private logistics players often face higher operating costs and last-mile delivery challenges. The collaboration is expected to help DTDC scale its parcel operations and respond more effectively to rising demand from India’s fast-growing e-commerce sector.
For the Department of Posts, the partnership is expected to strengthen its parcel business and enhance its role in India’s logistics economy. By working with a private express delivery company, the postal department aims to improve parcel transmission, expand service opportunities and position itself more strongly in the country’s evolving logistics and e-commerce supply chain.
The Department of Posts operates the world’s largest postal network and provides communication, logistics and financial services across India. Its deep physical presence gives it a unique advantage in last-mile connectivity. DTDC, meanwhile, is one of India’s express parcel delivery companies, serving domestic and international e-commerce customers with scalable logistics solutions.
The MoU signals a practical convergence between India’s traditional postal infrastructure and modern private-sector logistics capability. As online retail expands beyond metropolitan cities, such partnerships could play a crucial role in making parcel delivery faster, wider and more reliable across the country.
