Low-Cost Supercapacitor from Industrial Waste Cotton & Natural Seawater Electrolyte

Scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), an autonomous organization of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India have developed a simple, low-cost, environmentally friendly, and sustainable supercapacitor electrode derived from industrial waste cotton which can be used as an energy harvester storage device.

Cuckoos to be Tracked by WII, IIRS in 1st Attempt to Decode Link Between ‘Rain bird’andMonsoon

Two years ago, scientists from the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) had an idea. The cuckoo has always been known as the rain bird, the harbinger of monsoon. But how has it come to be so? They finally hope to find out, in what will be the first attempt to track migratory patterns of a bird to understand its relationship with climate change.

‘Active Principle’ From Turmeric can Potentially Improve Outcomes of Cancer Therapies

Indian institute of Technology (IIT) Madras researchers have shown that the active principle from turmeric that is curcumin can enhance cancer cell death caused by a protein called ‘TRAIL.’ They performed studies using isolated leukaemia cells from cancer patients and found that non-toxic concentrations of curcumin can significantly increase the efficiency of TRAIL-induced cell death.

Endangered Wolves’ Species Found in Telengana

Telangana State, it appears, is attracting more and more rare bird species and other wildlife to its forests. Wildlife photographer Kyatham Santhosh Kumar reported the spotting of Indian Gray Wolves, an endangered species, on the banks of river Godavari in Nizamabad district on Saturday, just a day before Forest Range Officer Satla Venugopal spotted the rare Rufous-Bellied Eagle in Kagaznagar forest division.

Indian Researchers Develop ‘Hyperelastic Model’ to Understand Brain Injuries

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras researchers developed an analysis-driven ‘hyperelastic’ model in calculating the stress and strain experienced by the brain due to blunt force injury and lesion (tumour) growth. The new model will help neurosurgeons and researchers to understand how the damage due to injuries in the brain progresses with time and aid them in devising strategies in treating the injured brain.
