The Israeli firm has started the delivery of the Spice-2000 bombs to India and the first batch of these bombs was received recently, top IAF sources told ANI. The weapons have been delivered to Gwalior as it is the home base of the Indian Air Force’s Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft fleet and they are the only fleet which can fire the Israeli bombs.

“The DAC, chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh accorded approval for capital procurement for the services amounting to approximately Rs 2,000 crore,” a defence ministry spokesperson said.
He said the DAC also gave approval for indigenous development and production of ammunition for T72 and T90 tanks to enhance the Army’s fire power.

The missiles are designed and developed by the state-run Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Ltd for BEL’s radars and control centres across the country. “An Akash system comprises a 3D passive electronically scanned array radar and four launchers with three missiles each, interlinked,” said the statement.

Five Indian women police officers were honoured by the United Nations for their commendable services in the world body’s mission in South Sudan, officials said on Friday. The women officers who were conferred the UN medal were Reena Yadav, inspector, Chandigarh Police; Gopika Jahagirdar, DSP, Maharashtra Police; Bharati Samantray, DSP in the MHA; Ragini Kumari, inspector in the MHA; and Kamal Shekhawat, ASP, Rajasthan Police.

SSS Defence, which has begun work on constructing an 80,000 sqft arms factory at Jigani, 28km from Bengaluru, is hopeful of putting the two weapons on trial with the special forces soon, even as it has its eyes locked on the export market. SSS Defence has developed two rifles: Viper, chambered for .308/7.62x51mm cartridge and Saber, chambered for .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge. While Viper has proved its accuracy from a distance of more than 1,000 metres, Saber has proved it on a 1,500 metres range.
