MoS Shipping Mandaviya Launches Indian Coast Guard Patrol Vessel ‘Varad’ in Chennai – Make in India

The newly commissioned ICGS Varad with a gross tonnage of 2,100 tons is 98mtrs long and has 15mtrs broad. The endurance of the vessel is 5,000 nautical miles, with a maximum speed of 26 Knots. The ship will be fitted with one CRN-91 and two 12.7 mm guns and will be capable of carrying an Integral Twin Engine Helicopter which will enhance its operational, surveillance, and search & rescue capability.

Army Upgrades its Russian Schilka Air Defence Systems

According to information available on the BEL website, the upgraded Schilka system is an advanced air defence system against attacking aircraft and helicopters. The upgradation includes replacing the existing Radar, analog computer, engine, GTE with state of the art system and addition of air conditioning system for crew comfort.

GSL Makes Delivery of New Class Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) – Make in India

This largest and most advanced 105 meters long, new generation OPV was handed over by Cmde B B Nagpal, CMD, GSL to DIG Rajesh Mittal, Commanding Officer (designate) in presence of IG T P Sadanandan, PTM, TM, DDG (M&M), Indian Coast Guard and DIG Atul Parlikar, TM CGRPS (Goa) in a simple ceremony held at GSL on 24th Feb 2020. Shri T N Sudhakar, Director(Finance), Shri. S. J. Kamat, Director (Operations), Capt Jagmohan, Director (CPP&BD) and other senior officials of Indian Coast Guard and GSL were also present on the occasion.

India-UK Joint IAF & RAF Exercise Indradhanush 2020 Begins

The RAF team comprises of 36 specialised combatants of the RAF Regiment while the IAF will comprise of 42 combatants of the Garud Commando Force, the special forces unit of the Indian Air Force. Both teams will execute missions based on jointly worked out plans and scenarios. Both sides will also exercise specialised weapons, equipment, and vehicles, and validate joint employability.
