Serum Institute of India Leads Cross-Sector Indian Investments into UK
Downing Street announced that the Serum Institute of India would invest GBP 240 million (US$ 332.38 million) in the UK to expand its vaccine business and open a new sales office, creating thousands of jobs, as part of a GBP 1 billion (US$ 1.38 billion) India-UK Enhanced Trade Partnership that will create about 6,500 jobs in the UK.
HAL to Service Rolls-Royce MT30 Marine Engines in India
R Madhavan, CMD, HAL, said, “This partnership will leverage the rich experience of HAL’s IMGT Division that works on marine gas turbines with Indian shipyards. Further, we are also exploring the option of using MT7 marine engine on the hovercraft being planned by the shipyards in India.”
UK PM Announces New £1 Billion Trade Deal with India
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday announced new UK-India trade and investment worth £1 billion, including an investment of £240 million by the Serum Institute of India (SII) for its vaccine business in Britain, ahead of a virtual summit with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Biodegradable Yoga Mat Developed by 6 Young Girls from Assam May Save Lakes from Water Hyacinth Menace
The girls belong to the fishing community living in the fringe of the Deepor Beel, a permanent freshwater lake in south west of Guwahati city, recognised as a Ramsar Site (a wetland of international importance) and a bird wildlife sanctuary. The lake has been a source of livelihood for 9 villages of the fishing community who shared this biome for centuries, but over the years suffered from excessive growth and accumulation of water hyacinth.
About 65% More Wheat Procured During Current Rabi Marketing Season in Comparison to Last Year
Procurement of Wheat in ongoing RMS 2021-22 is continuing smoothly in the procuring States of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat Jammu & Kashmir and Bihar at MSP, as was done in previous seasons, and till now (upto 03.05.2021) a quantity of over 299.16 LMT of Wheat has been procured against the last year corresponding purchase of 181.37 LMT. About 29.46 Lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing RMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs. 59,083.37 Crore.
Telecom Department Gives Go-Ahead for 5G Technology and Spectrum Trials
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, approved today, permissions to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) for conducting trials for use and applications of 5G technology. The applicant TSPs include Bharti Airtel Ltd., Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd., Vodafone Idea Ltd. and MTNL. These TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers which are Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT. In addition, Reliance JioInfocomm Ltd. will also be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology.
