The first dose of the Covid vaccine has been provided to 95% of India’s eligible adult population, with 74% fully vaccinated, the Union health ministry announced on Thursday, as the total vaccine doses administered surpassed 164.35 crores (1.64 billion). A total of 49,69,805 vaccination doses have been provided as of 7 p.m.
10,304,847 precaution doses were given to healthcare and frontline workers, as well as people aged 60 and older who had comorbidities. In addition, 44,281,254 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
With the compilation of the final reports for the day by late tonight, the daily vaccination number is projected to rise. Meanwhile, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, complimented the country on its great success. He claimed in a tweet that India set a new milestone by providing the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to more than 95% of the country’s eligible population.
The country is consistently moving forward in this effort, he said, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the hard work of health personnel, and public involvement. The nationwide immunisation campaign began on January 16 of last year, with healthcare personnel being the first to be vaccinated.
From January 10, India began distributing a preventive dosage of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare staff, frontline workers, including election personnel, and people aged 60 and over with comorbidities, amid an increase in coronavirus infections fueled by the Omicron strain of the virus.
