DRDO & AICTE Launch Regular M. Tech. Program in Defence Technology

A regular M.Tech. Program in Defence Technology has been launched by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to impart necessary theoretical & experimental knowledge, skill and aptitude in various defence technology areas. Secretary Department of Defence R&D & Chairman DRDODr G Satheesh Reddy and Chairman AICTE Prof Anil D Sahasrabudhelaunched the program during a virtual event organised by AICTE, New Delhi on July 08, 2021. The program will motivate the aspiring engineers to start their career in defence technology.

MoD Implements Web-based Integrated System for Sanction & Disbursement of Defence pension

Ministry of Defence has implemented SPARSH [System for Pension Administration (Raksha)], an integrated system for automation of sanction and disbursement of defence pension. This web-based system processes pension claims and credits pension directly into the bank accounts of defence pensioners without relying on any external intermediary. A Pensioner Portal is available for pensioners to view their pension related information, access services and register complaints for redressal of grievances, if any, relating to their pension matters.

New Plant Species Discovered from Antarctica Named After India

Polar biologists based at Central University of Punjab have discovered a new native species of moss from continental Antarctica. The species is named Bryum bharatiensis– named so as a tribute to the country and India’s Antarctic station Bharati. Felix Bast, Associate Professor and head Department of Botany, Central University, who was part of Indian Antarctic Mission 2016-17 as an expedition scientist, stumbled upon these green plants on rocks near Bharati station at Larsemann Hills, East Antarctica.

Revenue Deficit Grant of INR. 9,871 Crore Released to 17 States

The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, has released the 4th monthly installment of Post Devolution Revenue Deficit (PDRD) Grant of Rs. 9,871.00 crore to the States yesterday. With the release of this installment, a total amount of Rs. 39,484.00 crore has been released to eligible States as Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant in the current financial year.

DST Inspire Fellow Developing Biomaterials for Bone Tissue Regeneration

A nano biomaterial with a stable link between two molecules or a hormone nanoconjugate called hydroxyapatite-Parathyroid synthesized by Inspire Faculty fellow Dr. Geetanjali Tomar from Savitribai Phule Pune University may soon help tissue regeneration. She has also synthesised and characterised gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) from a microorganism called Actinomycete, Nocardiopsisdassonvillei NCIM 5124.

Exports of Geographical Indications Certified Bhalia Wheat from Gujarat Begins

In a major boost to wheat exports, the first shipment of Geographical Indication (GI) certified Bhalia variety of wheat was exported on 7th July 2021, Wednesday to Kenya and Sri Lanka from Gujarat. The GI certified wheat has high protein content and is sweet in taste. The crop is grown mostly across Bhal region of Gujarat which includes Ahmadabad, Anand, Kheda, Bhavanagar, Surendranagar, Bharuch districts.
