UN Chief Appoints Indian Army Veteran Abhijit Guha as Head of Hodeidah Mission

After his retirement from the Indian Army in 2013, General Guha served on the Expert Panel on Technology and Innovation in UN Peacekeeping (2014) and the High-Level Independent Panel on Peace Operations (2015). Guha will succeed Danish Lieutenant General Michael Lollesgaard, who served in these posts from January 31 to July 31, 2019.
Guha brings to this position 39 years of national and international military experience.

India, Thailand Joint Military Exercise from September 16

A Defence Ministry release said that Indian and Royal Thailand Army (RTA) contingents comprising 50 soldiers each will participate in the exercise with an aim to share experience gained during various counter-terrorism operations. MAITREE is an annual training event which is being conducted alternatively in Thailand and India since 2006. The scope of this exercise covers company-level joint training on counter-terrorism operations in jungle and urban scenario.

The DAC approved the capital procurement for the India armed forces Services amounting to approximately Rs 2,000 crore. The decision to go for indigenous ammunition for the Russian-origin T-72 and T-90 tanks is yet another push to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, The procurement of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed and industry manufactured Mechanical Mine Layer (Self Propelled) to improve automated minelaying capability with the Indian Army was also approved.

700-Year-Old Artifact Stolen in 1980s Retrieved from Art Gallery in Australia

A 700-year-old artifact, which is an antique Natarajar idol, has been retrieved from art gallery in Australia. The idol was stolen from the Kulasekaramudayar-Aramvalarth Nayagi temple in Tamil Nadu in 1982. The idol investigation team headed by retired Inspector General of Police, Pon Manickavel played a crucial role in bringing back the 700-year-old statue belonging to the Pandyan era.
