Indian defence technology company DIASPRO Intech Pvt Ltd has developed SATEEK, an indigenous Digital Ballistic Computer (DBC) designed for the T-90 main battle tank platform, adding to India’s growing effort to localise critical electronics and fire-control technologies for its armoured forces.
SATEEK has been designed to transform legacy fire-control architecture into a more modern digital system capable of performing ballistic computations rapidly while interfacing with the tank’s sensors and fire-control equipment. DIASPRO says the system uses an advanced processing architecture intended to improve firing accuracy, particularly while the tank is moving.
A ballistic computer forms a critical part of a modern tank’s fire-control system. It processes information needed to calculate the correct firing solution before the main gun engages a target. Depending on the fire-control architecture, these inputs can include target range, ammunition characteristics, vehicle movement and other ballistic or environmental parameters. The calculated solution allows the weapon and sighting systems to compensate for factors that could otherwise affect the projectile’s point of impact.
SATEEK Designed for T-90 Modernisation
According to DIASPRO, SATEEK provides faster ballistic computations, improved hit probability on the move and greater operational reliability. The company has also designed the system around an open and scalable architecture, allowing it to accommodate future sensors and ammunition upgrades.
The use of military-grade components and a digital processing architecture could also help address the challenge of technological obsolescence as India’s T-90 fleet undergoes progressive modernisation.
SATEEK’s development is particularly relevant because the Digital Ballistic Computer is already an identified upgrade area for the Indian Army’s T-90 fleet.
The Department of Defence Production’s Annual Report 2023-24 specifically listed the Automatic Target Tracker (ATT) and Digital Ballistic Computer (DBC) among upgrades planned for the T-90. According to the government document, the systems are intended to provide faster target acquisition, digital onboard ballistic computing, enhanced lethality and increased survivability.
The Ministry of Defence describes the T-90 as a mainstay of India’s mechanised forces, making the modernisation of its sensors, electronics, protection systems and fire-control architecture an important element of maintaining the platform’s battlefield effectiveness.
Greater Indigenous Content in India’s Armoured Fleet
SATEEK also reflects the broader shift toward replacing imported or foreign-origin subsystems in India’s large fleet of armoured fighting vehicles with domestically designed alternatives.
India has already indigenised several systems and components associated with the T-90, including elements of its sighting, electrical, guided-weapon and automotive systems. Developing sophisticated indigenous fire-control electronics would extend this localisation effort into one of the tank’s most critical combat functions.
An indigenous digital ballistic computer could provide additional long-term advantages by giving Indian industry greater control over software, electronics integration, upgrades and obsolescence management. An open architecture could also make it easier to integrate new ammunition, sensors and other technologies without depending entirely on the tank’s original foreign supply chain.
DIASPRO, headquartered in Noida, is an Indian defence technology company working on electronic warfare and electronic systems for air and ground platforms. The company is also an ADITI Challenge 1.0 winner under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) programme and is developing a Synthetic Aperture Radar image-disruption technology for the Indian Air Force.
The emergence of SATEEK therefore represents another step in India’s attempt to build domestic expertise in sophisticated armoured-vehicle electronics rather than limiting indigenisation to mechanical components and spares.
