WorldStage Newsonline– The India High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Abhah Thakur has said that his country would support Nigeria in tackling security challenges.
He stated this on Wednesday when he visited the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, at Army Headquartrs, Abuja.
Thakur admitted that Nigeria and India had similar security challenges, especially terrorism, and therefore, said that his country would collaborate with the army in capacity-building for its personnel.
Receiving the visitor, Buratai said that military cooperation between both countries had continued to grow over the years, leading to the establishment of “Joint Defence Cooperation Committee – JDCC.’’
He explained that JDCC provided a platform for Nigeria and India to continuously engage in defence cooperation, noting that both countries had “deep-rooted military relations.’’
Buratai described India as a “long-standing friend’’ of Nigeria, especially to the Nigerian army, recalling that it played a role in the establishment of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
The NDA was set in 1964 to train the officer corps of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force
“We will utilise your wealth of experience and defence industrial complex that is of a high standard. I know your capabilities in handling technical support to us,’’ Buratai said.
