Apollo Micro Systems Limited has announced the commissioning of a new 9,000 metric tonne bulk explosives facility in West Bengal through its group company, IDL Explosives Limited. The Bolkunda Silo Unit, located near Asansol, was inaugurated on October 22, 2026, marking an expansion of the group’s industrial explosives infrastructure and its capacity to serve India’s mining industry.
Spread across approximately 8.4 acres, the new facility is strategically located near the Eastern and Central Coal Belts. It will support the supply of site-mixed bulk explosives to mining operations, particularly those associated with Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited and other industrial customers operating in the region.
The facility was inaugurated by Baddam Karunakar Reddy, Founder and Managing Director of Apollo Group, in the presence of senior executives from Apollo Micro Systems and IDL Explosives. According to the company’s announcement, the commissioning strengthens its network of bulk explosives facilities and supports the execution of long-term supply arrangements with Coal India subsidiaries.
New Explosives Facility Strengthens Manufacturing Infrastructure in West Bengal
The Bolkunda Silo Unit represents an addition to IDL Explosives’ industrial infrastructure, supporting the storage, preparation and distribution of bulk explosives used in mining activities. The facility has a stated capacity of 9,000 metric tonnes and occupies approximately 8.4 acres near Asansol, an important industrial centre in eastern India.
The location provides access to coal-producing regions served by Eastern Coalfields and Central Coalfields. Establishing explosives infrastructure near mining operations allows suppliers to coordinate deliveries more efficiently and respond to the operational requirements of customers engaged in coal extraction.
The facility will form part of IDL Explosives’ wider network of bulk explosives plants and silos across India. By expanding its presence in eastern India, the company aims to strengthen its ability to serve established mining customers while supporting future business opportunities.
Site-Mixed Bulk Explosives to Support Coal Mining Operations
The new unit is designed to support the supply of site-mixed bulk explosives, which are widely used in commercial mining operations. These systems involve transporting and handling appropriate precursor materials before preparing the explosive product at or near the designated blasting location.
In modern mining operations, site-mixed bulk explosives provide a practical solution for large-scale blasting requirements. Their application helps mining operators coordinate explosive supplies with production schedules while reducing dependence on the transportation of fully prepared explosive products over longer distances.
IDL Explosives intends to use the Bolkunda facility to improve supply-chain efficiency and strengthen service delivery to customers in the eastern coal-producing regions. The company has also highlighted operational safety as an important consideration in developing infrastructure closer to mining sites.
The facility’s commissioning expands the availability of specialised industrial explosives services for coal extraction and related mining activities, supporting an important segment of India’s domestic industrial supply chain.
Eastern Coalfields and Central Coalfields Among Target Customers
The Bolkunda facility has been established to serve mining operations associated with Eastern Coalfields Limited and Central Coalfields Limited, both subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. These companies operate major coal-producing assets that contribute to India’s domestic energy requirements.
Mining operations require dependable supplies of industrial explosives for controlled blasting and the extraction of mineral resources. Reliable delivery arrangements are therefore an important component of mine planning, equipment utilisation and production continuity.
According to Apollo Micro Systems, the new facility strengthens IDL Explosives’ capability to service long-term bulk explosives orders secured from Coal India subsidiaries. Locating the infrastructure near customer operations supports more efficient distribution and closer coordination between the explosives supplier and mining companies.
The expansion also illustrates the role of specialised private-sector manufacturers in supporting public-sector mining enterprises. Such partnerships contribute to the wider industrial ecosystem serving India’s coal, energy and infrastructure sectors.
IDL Explosives Expands Apollo Group’s Energetics Business
IDL Explosives Limited operates in the commercial explosives industry and forms part of Apollo Group’s expanding activities in energetics and specialised industrial materials. The company maintains manufacturing and supply infrastructure serving customers in mining and other industrial sectors.
Apollo Micro Systems, headquartered in Hyderabad, is known for developing and manufacturing electronic and electromechanical systems for defence, aerospace and strategic applications. Its business activities include specialised electronics, control systems and other technologies used in demanding operational environments.
The group’s involvement in explosives manufacturing broadens its industrial capabilities beyond electronic systems. Through IDL Explosives, Apollo has established a presence in commercial energetics, an industry requiring specialised manufacturing expertise, stringent safety standards and dependable distribution infrastructure.
The Bolkunda unit is specifically intended for industrial and mining explosives. Its commissioning should therefore be distinguished from the establishment of a military ammunition manufacturing facility, although the wider Apollo Group also maintains interests in defence-related technologies.
Indigenous Industrial Capacity Supports India’s Mining Supply Chain
The expansion of domestic explosives infrastructure is relevant to India’s mining industry, which depends on reliable access to specialised materials and services. Coal mining, mineral extraction and major excavation activities require industrial explosives manufactured and handled under established safety and regulatory frameworks.
Facilities located near major mining regions can strengthen supply-chain coordination by reducing logistical distances and improving responsiveness to customer requirements. This becomes particularly important for operations that depend on consistent availability of specialised inputs to maintain production schedules.
The Bolkunda facility contributes to India’s domestic industrial infrastructure by expanding the operational footprint of an Indian explosives manufacturer. Its location near established coal-producing regions allows IDL Explosives to integrate more closely with the requirements of mining enterprises.
The development also demonstrates how specialised manufacturing companies are investing in regional infrastructure to serve industrial customers more effectively. Such investments support the broader domestic ecosystem involved in energy production, mineral extraction and infrastructure development.
Apollo Group Strengthens Its Industrial Manufacturing Presence
The commissioning of the Bolkunda Silo Unit marks another step in Apollo Group’s expansion of its industrial explosives business. The facility adds capacity to IDL Explosives’ existing network while improving access to important coal-mining customers in eastern India.
The company has identified supply-chain efficiency, operational safety and support for long-term customer requirements as principal objectives of the expansion. The addition of infrastructure near major mining operations strengthens the group’s ability to participate in India’s commercial explosives market.
With the new facility, IDL Explosives is expanding its industrial presence while supporting the requirements of public-sector mining companies and other regional customers. The development reflects the growing role of Indian private-sector manufacturers in building specialised industrial capabilities and strengthening domestic supply chains.
