Vietnam is expanding its commercial presence across some of India’s largest economic centres, with new business programmes in Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu aimed at strengthening trade, investment, supply-chain integration and direct company-to-company partnerships.
The latest push reflects a broader shift in India–Vietnam economic relations. Vietnamese trade officials are seeking to move beyond conventional product promotion towards deeper cooperation in technology, logistics, digital commerce, clean energy, tourism, manufacturing and strategic supply chains.
Mumbai Becomes a Major India–Vietnam Business Hub
A Vietnamese business delegation participated in the 36th annual general meeting of the India-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mumbai on September 29, followed by a dedicated business networking programme on September 30.
The delegation included representatives from the Vietnam E-commerce Association and companies active in technology, e-commerce, retail and cross-border business development. Vietnamese Ambassador to India Trinh Minh Manh called for a new phase of economic engagement focused on higher-quality trade, investment, technology cooperation and more resilient supply chains.
The Vietnam E-commerce Association and the India-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry also signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen business connections, market access and bilateral cooperation.
New Business Connect Network Proposed
Vietnamese trade officials proposed creating a WTC India–Vietnam Business Connect network linking major economic centres in both countries.
The proposed mechanism would support regular business-to-business engagement, sector-specific delegations, investment matchmaking, market surveys and identification of commercial partners.
The aim is to build a more permanent framework for companies to develop contracts, investments and supply-chain relationships rather than relying mainly on one-off trade exhibitions.
Bilateral Trade Reaches Record Levels
India–Vietnam merchandise trade reached a record $16.46 billion in 2025, an increase of 10.5% from the previous year. Vietnam exported about $10.3 billion worth of goods to India, while its imports from India reached around $6.1 billion.
The two countries are working towards a target of $25 billion in bilateral trade by 2030. In the first half of 2026, two-way trade exceeded $10 billion, showing continued momentum in commercial exchanges.
Trade is also becoming more diversified, with electronics, mobile phones, components, machinery and other products linked to global value chains gaining importance alongside traditional goods.
Uttar Pradesh Emerges as a New Focus
Vietnam’s outreach in Mumbai followed its participation as a partner country at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2026 in Greater Noida.
More than 30 Vietnamese enterprises took part in the event, showcasing agricultural products, processed foods, industrial goods, textiles, footwear and tourism services.
The programme also included discussions on electric vehicles, supporting industries, logistics, technology, innovation and investment.
Tourism and aviation cooperation featured prominently, with interest in hospitality and services around Uttar Pradesh’s Buddhist pilgrimage destinations. Discussions also covered possible air connectivity between Noida International Airport and Vietnamese carriers.
Tamil Nadu Engagement Targets High-Technology Sectors
Vietnam has also expanded engagement with Tamil Nadu, one of India’s largest industrial and manufacturing states.
During meetings in Chennai, Vietnamese officials identified electronics, semiconductors, information technology, artificial intelligence, engineering, clean energy and pharmaceuticals as priority sectors for investment and industrial cooperation.
Vietnam encouraged Tamil Nadu-based companies to expand investment in Vietnam while inviting Vietnamese firms to explore opportunities in the state.
Cooperation Extends Beyond Traditional Trade
The emerging India–Vietnam economic agenda now includes electric vehicles, renewable energy, digital transformation, logistics, tourism, agriculture, digital payments and strategic minerals.
Vietnam is seeking greater Indian investment in clean energy, infrastructure, high technology and manufacturing, while both sides are also expanding cooperation in innovation, skills, technology transfer and healthcare.
This broadening of the economic relationship reflects a shift from simple trade growth towards deeper integration across manufacturing, services, technology and strategic supply chains.
India–Vietnam Economic Partnership Enters a Broader Phase
Vietnam’s recent outreach across Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu shows a clear effort to build commercial relationships across multiple Indian economic regions rather than relying only on national-level engagement.
By combining trade promotion with investment, technology collaboration and direct business networking, India and Vietnam are building a wider economic base to support their target of $25 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
