Indian humanitarian assistance sent under Operation Amistad has reached earthquake-hit Venezuela, bringing urgent medical support, relief supplies and specialised personnel to help the country deal with the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster.

The assistance includes a Field Hospital Unit, essential relief material, medicines, medical equipment and portable hospital systems designed for emergency response. The mission reflects India’s commitment to standing with friendly nations during humanitarian crises and extending quick support when lives, health systems and rescue operations come under pressure.

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar said that the Indian assistance had reached Venezuela and expressed confidence that the Field Hospital Unit, medicines, medical equipment and relief supplies would strengthen ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts in the country.

India had launched Operation Amistad in response to the powerful earthquakes that caused extensive loss of life, injuries and destruction in Venezuela. The operation was planned as a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief mission, combining medical deployment, emergency supplies and rescue support.

Two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft were used to transport the relief mission to Venezuela. These heavy-lift aircraft carried humanitarian supplies along with a 41-member Indian team comprising rescue personnel and medical professionals. Their role will be to assist Venezuelan authorities in search and rescue operations, emergency medical care and relief work in affected areas.

The relief package included an Indian Army Field Hospital unit, HADR pallets, medicines, 30 tonnes of relief supplies, six tonnes of medicines and medical equipment, and two BHISHM Cube portable hospitals. The BHISHM Cube is designed for rapid medical deployment in disaster zones, allowing emergency teams to provide organised medical care even in difficult field conditions.

The deployment underlines India’s growing capacity in rapid disaster response. In recent years, India has increasingly used its armed forces, medical teams and transport aircraft to deliver relief to countries affected by earthquakes, cyclones, floods, conflict situations and other emergencies.

Operation Amistad also carries a strong diplomatic message. The word “Amistad” means friendship in Spanish, making the mission a symbol of solidarity between India and Venezuela. Beyond the delivery of supplies, the operation shows India’s readiness to convert international goodwill into practical assistance during moments of distress.

For Venezuela, the arrival of the Indian medical contingent and emergency supplies is expected to support local rescue and healthcare systems at a critical time. Field hospitals, medicines and portable medical infrastructure can play a vital role in treating the injured, stabilising patients and reaching communities affected by damaged hospitals or disrupted services.

India’s response also reflects its wider humanitarian diplomacy. By sending trained teams, medicines and medical infrastructure, India is positioning itself as a reliable first responder in global crises. The mission combines compassion, logistics, defence capability and medical preparedness in one coordinated relief effort.

As Venezuela continues its recovery, Operation Amistad stands as an example of how international cooperation can bring timely relief to disaster-hit communities. India’s assistance is a message of friendship, humanity and shared responsibility in the face of tragedy.
