New Delhi, April 2026:
The Government of India has highlighted the transformative impact of the newly developed Khambatki Ghat Tunnel, describing it as a major step toward safer and more efficient travel through the challenging terrain of the Western Ghats.
For decades, the Khambatki Ghat section was known for its steep curves, accident-prone stretches, and traffic congestion. The newly constructed tunnel now offers a safer alternative route, significantly reducing travel risks and improving driving conditions for commuters.
Officials noted that the tunnel represents a shift “from fear to freedom,” as it minimizes sharp turns and hazardous gradients that previously made the ghat section difficult to navigate, especially for heavy vehicles.
The infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance connectivity along the corridor, facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers, and contribute to regional economic development. Improved travel efficiency is also likely to reduce travel time and fuel consumption for vehicles passing through the region.
The project reflects the government’s continued focus on modernizing road infrastructure and ensuring safer highways across the country, particularly in geographically challenging areas like the Western Ghats.
