Renault Bets Big on India, Targets Top-Three Global Market Status by 2030

As part of this roadmap, Renault plans to launch seven vehicles in India by the end of the decade, spanning internal combustion, hybrid and battery-electric models

French carmaker Renault has placed India at the centre of its next growth phase, saying it wants the country to become one of its top three global markets by 2030. The announcement, highlighted by IBEF and reported by Reuters and other auto publications, signals a sharper India push built around new launches, electrification, exports and deeper localisation. Renault’s global CEO François Provost said the company sees India as Alembic Pharma secures USFDA approval for generic Methotrexate injectiona high-potential market in an industry that is still expanding rapidly and moving toward cleaner, more technology-driven mobility.

As part of this roadmap, Renault plans to launch seven vehicles in India by the end of the decade, spanning internal combustion, hybrid and battery-electric models. The company expects electrified vehicles to account for about half of its India sales by 2030, reflecting a major shift in product strategy as consumer preferences move toward SUVs, premium features and lower-emission powertrains. Reuters reported that Renault is also targeting a rise in India market share to 5%, up from under 1% at present.

The India plan goes beyond domestic sales. Under Renault Group’s official “futuREady India” strategy unveiled on April 16, 2026, the company wants India to serve as a technology, engineering and export hub within its global value chain. Renault said it is aiming to generate €2 billion in annual exports from India by 2030 across vehicles, components and R&D. The company’s Chennai-region manufacturing and engineering base is expected to play a major role in that strategy, reinforcing India’s position not just as a demand centre but as a production and innovation base for global operations.

The push comes at a time when India is widely seen as one of the world’s most important auto growth markets. Reuters described India as the world’s third-largest automobile market, a scale that makes it strategically vital for global manufacturers looking for volume growth beyond slower-moving mature economies. Renault’s expanded India focus therefore fits a broader industry pattern: automakers are increasingly treating India as both a large consumer market and a long-term manufacturing platform for future mobility.

For Renault, the message is clear: India is no longer a secondary outpost in its international business. It is being positioned as a core growth engine, a launch market for multiple new products, and a pillar of the company’s long-term global competitiveness. Whether Renault can hit its ambitious market-share and electrification goals will depend on execution, pricing, localisation and its ability to compete against entrenched players in one of the toughest car markets in the world. But the scale of the commitment leaves little doubt that Renault now sees India as central to its future.
