The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has launched an integrated Performance Monitoring Dashboard to track the performance of major infrastructure sub-sectors, in a move aimed at strengthening data-driven governance and evidence-based policymaking. The new dashboard sits on top of PAIMANA — short for Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analytics for Nation-building — which MoSPI operationalised on September 25, 2025, in place of the older OCMS-2006 monitoring system.
The revamped framework marks a shift from simple output tracking to a broader assessment of how infrastructure actually performs. MoSPI said the system now evaluates infrastructure through multiple lenses including access, quality, utilisation, affordability, and fiscal cost and revenue use. While the ministry has long monitored 11 key sectors through 28 sub-indicators, the new dashboard currently carries 116 indicators across six visible sub-sectors: civil aviation, roads, power, ports-shipping-waterways, telecommunications, and railways.
The dashboard’s first set of highlights points to continued momentum across several sectors. In civil aviation, passenger traffic in FY 2025–26 up to September reached 20.2 crore and cargo handled stood at 19.8 lakh tonnes. In power, peak demand in FY 2025–26 up to January was almost fully met, with a deficit of only 0.03%. Telecommunications infrastructure expanded to 8.48 lakh towers, while tele-density improved to 91.7. On the roads side, digital tolling deepened with 114.4 lakh FASTags issued and electronic toll collection transactions rising to 282.5 crore. Railways recorded 835 million passenger train kilometres, while the punctuality index for Mail and Express trains improved to 77.1%. In ports, shipping and waterways, India’s fleet rose to 1,545 vessels and inland waterways length reached 29,267 km.
The significance of the dashboard lies in turning infrastructure oversight into a more continuous, policy-friendly process rather than a static reporting exercise. By linking sector performance to a broader analytical framework, the platform is expected to help policymakers spot bottlenecks earlier, compare sectors more meaningfully, and design more targeted interventions. MoSPI has said the dashboard will be updated every quarter, with the next scheduled update due on July 16, 2026.
