CARI Bengaluru Becomes First CCRAS Institute to Secure ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation

The accreditation confirms that CARI Bengaluru’s clinical laboratory meets globally accepted standards for accuracy, safety, and reliability in medical testing. According to the Ministry of Ayush, the laboratory now holds NABL accreditation for 50 test parameters and provides a wide range of services, including blood glucose, HbA1c, liver and kidney function tests, lipid and thyroid profiles, electrolyte analysis, and complete blood counts.

In a major boost to quality-assured healthcare in the Ayush sector, the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Bengaluru has become the first institute under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) to receive ISO 15189:2022 accreditation in both Biochemistry and Haematology. The recognition marks a significant step in strengthening scientific standards, diagnostic reliability, and patient confidence in Ayurveda-linked healthcare services.

During 2025–26, the laboratory carried out more than 1.52 lakh investigations and served over 9,300 patients, reflecting both expanding capacity and rising demand. The institute has also seen sharp overall growth, with OPD footfall rising from 18,918 in 2021 to more than 51,300 in 2026, while laboratory investigations climbed from 2,770 to over 1.55 lakh during the same period. Panchakarma and para-surgical procedures have also grown significantly, and inpatient services introduced in July 2024 are now operating at near-full occupancy.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav said the accreditation shows how Ayush infrastructure is being transformed into a benchmark of quality and reliability. Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha described the recognition as a landmark for integrating high-quality diagnostics with traditional medicine and reinforcing evidence-based practice, research, and patient-centric care.

The institute’s progress has been built over several years. Starting with a single semi-automated biochemistry analyser, the laboratory was gradually upgraded with fully automated systems under the Ministry of Ayush’s Centre of Excellence Scheme. After securing NABL entry-level certification in November 2022, it advanced further through rigorous quality implementation and assessment to meet the higher ISO 15189:2022 standard. CARI Bengaluru is also moving toward BIS IS/ISO 9001:2015 certification and plans to further expand its accredited diagnostic services in the coming years.
