Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and several other key departments, Jitendra Singh, presented awards to 26 young medical professionals from across the country who have distinguished themselves in various medical specialities. The ceremony recognised emerging talent in fields such as oncology, paediatrics, endocrinology, orthopaedics and emergency medicine, highlighting the growing importance of specialised expertise in modern healthcare.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the organisers for choosing to honour doctors at an early stage of their careers rather than waiting until the later phases of professional life. According to him, recognition during the formative years of a doctor’s career serves as both a powerful motivation and a significant acknowledgement of their potential.
The Minister emphasised that encouraging young medical professionals early in their journey helps strengthen the country’s healthcare ecosystem. Awards and recognition at this stage, he noted, inspire doctors to pursue excellence and remain committed to advancing medical science while serving society.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also reflected on the rapidly evolving nature of healthcare. He said that the sector is undergoing a “revolutionary transformation” driven by emerging technologies and the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence. While technological innovations are improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment methods, he stressed that the role of doctors remains indispensable. Clinical judgement, experience and human understanding, he said, continue to play a vital role in effective patient care.
Drawing on his long association with the medical field, the Minister recalled that earlier medical education often revolved around studying certain diseases in depth—such as diabetes or syphilis—to understand broader medical principles. Today, however, the field of medicine has expanded enormously, with multiple specialisations and advanced treatment approaches emerging across disciplines.
In this changing environment, Dr. Jitendra Singh advised young doctors to focus on a specific area of expertise. With new technologies and medical knowledge evolving rapidly, continuous learning and regular updating of skills have become essential for medical professionals. Specialisation, he noted, will be a key factor in delivering high-quality healthcare in the future.
The Minister also referred to the challenges that have emerged in the post-pandemic healthcare landscape following the global outbreak of COVID-19. Healthcare systems today must simultaneously address infectious diseases as well as a growing burden of lifestyle-related illnesses, making specialised knowledge and multidisciplinary collaboration more important than ever.
Expressing confidence in the young doctors who were honoured at the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh said many of them could go on to achieve significant milestones in their careers. He added that some of these professionals may eventually return in the future to receive lifetime achievement awards for their contributions to medicine and public health.
The recognition of these young medical professionals, he said, represents an investment in the future of India’s healthcare system—one that will be shaped by innovation, specialisation and a continued commitment to patient care.
