According to the US Trade Representative, the US administration aims to engage with India on developing robust supply chains and promoting a transparent rules-based trade system for market economies and democracies as part of its efforts to address the global supply chain issue. The United StatesIndia Trade Policy Platform (TPF), which is the primary bilateral forum for debating trade and investment problems affecting the two nations, was reintroduced in November 2021.
The US and India exchanged views on a broad range of trade concerns during the TPF meeting and issued a joint statement that highlighted the resolution of certain specific trade concerns and identified areas for future engagement through the TPF technical-level working groups on agricultural goods, non-agricultural goods, services and investment, and intellectual property. The US has stated that it will engage India’s government in a more intensive cooperative conversation on matters such as labour, the environment, digital trade, and good regulatory procedures, among others.
