At an event here on Tuesday, Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi delivered Rs 1000 crore (US$ 132 million) to the bank accounts of self-help groups, benefiting roughly 16 lakh women.
Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission, the funds were transferred (DAY-NRLM).
The mission’s goal is to give vital skills, incentives, and resources to women, particularly those at the grassroots level.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also present at the event, which drew over two lakh women.
Modi also distributed over US$ 2.6 million to over 1 lakh beneficiaries under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme,’ which provides a girl child with conditional cash transfers at various phases of her life. The entire remittance per beneficiary is US$ 198.48 in total.
In 43 districts, the prime minister also laid the foundation stone for 202 supplementary nutrition manufacturing units. SHGs will fund the construction of these units, which will cost roughly Rs 1 crore (US$ 0.31 million) each.
