On Friday, finance minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman said Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi-led NDA government eliminated all ills from the MNREGA rural-employment guarantee scheme and invested the maximum Rs. 90,500 crore (US$ 12.43 billion) ever so far.
She said that in the COVID-19 pandemic year, under the MNREGA rural jobs scheme, the government invested Rs. 90,469 crore (US$ 12.428 billion), which was the highest ever.
She added that for FY21, the budget estimate was Rs. 61,500 crore (US$ 8.45 billion) for the project, which has been increased to Rs. 1,11,500 crore (US$ 15.32 billion) in the revised estimates.
