Ultraviolette to Build ₹779-Crore ‘BIGGA’ Factory in Tamil Nadu as Indian EV Startup Targets Global Scale

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer Ultraviolette Automotive has unveiled plans for a major new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, significantly expanding the production base behind its next generation of electric two-wheelers.

Named the BIGGA Factory — short for Big Global Ambition — the plant will be located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, near Hosur, one of southern India’s largest automotive manufacturing clusters.

The project follows Ultraviolette’s earlier commitment to invest around ₹779 crore in Tamil Nadu as part of its manufacturing expansion. The new factory will operate alongside the company’s existing Bengaluru facility rather than replace it.

Capacity to Reach 2.5 Lakh Vehicles a Year

Ultraviolette plans to ramp up the BIGGA Factory in phases to an annual production capacity of 250,000 electric vehicles.

The plant is being designed from the outset with infrastructure capable of supporting an eventual capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year, depending on demand and future product expansion.

That represents a significant change in scale for a company that built its reputation around relatively low-volume, high-performance electric motorcycles.

The new factory will initially focus on production of the Tesseract electric scooter, while also providing manufacturing capacity for future Ultraviolette products across sports, street, crossover, cruiser and scooter categories.

Ultraviolette’s official product site currently lists the Tesseract for Q1 2027 and describes it as using what the company calls India’s first 100-volt scooter architecture.

From Performance Motorcycles to Higher-Volume Manufacturing

Ultraviolette entered the Indian EV market with the F77 performance motorcycle, deliberately positioning itself away from the high-volume commuter scooter segment.

The BIGGA Factory signals a broader strategy.

The Tesseract gives Ultraviolette an entry into the much larger electric-scooter market, while the scale of the Hosur plant suggests the company is preparing for substantially higher production volumes than its existing premium motorcycles require.

Co-founder and CEO Narayan Subramaniam said the company had spent the previous years building its foundation around technology, performance and product development, while the next phase would focus on manufacturing scale.

The Bengaluru factory will continue operating, giving Ultraviolette two manufacturing bases as it expands in India and overseas.

Industry 4.0 Manufacturing at Hosur

Ultraviolette intends to build the BIGGA Factory around Industry 4.0 manufacturing systems, combining automation with real-time production monitoring and digital quality control.

A Manufacturing Execution System is planned to provide production track-and-trace across the factory.

The manufacturing setup will also include digital lean-production systems and digital quality processes designed to monitor components and assemblies as they move through the plant.

Automation will be introduced across several production stages.

Planned systems include collaborative robots for sorting, welding and assembly, automated assembly error-proofing and vision-based inspection equipment.

Rather than relying exclusively on end-of-line quality checks, these systems are intended to detect manufacturing deviations during production itself.

Every Vehicle to Undergo Track Testing

The facility will also include a dedicated vehicle test track.

Completed vehicles will undergo evaluation before dispatch, integrating road-performance checks into the manufacturing and quality-control process.

For Ultraviolette, which markets its products heavily around performance and engineering, keeping final vehicle validation within the manufacturing campus is an important part of maintaining consistency as production volumes increase.

Hosur Offers an Established Automotive Supply Chain

The location is equally important.

Shoolagiri lies in Krishnagiri district near Hosur and Bengaluru, placing the factory close to Ultraviolette’s existing research and development operations as well as a well-established automotive supplier base.

SIPCOT officially identifies Shoolagiri Industrial Park among its industrial parks in Krishnagiri district.

Hosur already hosts vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers and engineering companies, giving Ultraviolette access to an experienced automotive workforce and established logistics infrastructure.

Co-founder and CTO Niraj Rajmohan has identified those supply-chain advantages, together with proximity to Bengaluru, as major reasons for choosing the location.

About 2,000 Jobs in Initial Phase

The BIGGA Factory is expected to generate roughly 2,000 jobs during its initial phase, with employment increasing as manufacturing expands over the following years.

That is separate from the broader employment potential associated with Ultraviolette’s earlier Tamil Nadu investment commitment.

As production grows, the factory could also create indirect opportunities among battery suppliers, electronics companies, precision component manufacturers, logistics providers and other businesses serving the EV supply chain.

Built for Both India and Exports

The scale of the project also reflects Ultraviolette’s ambitions outside India.

The company has been building an international presence around its performance motorcycles and describes its strategy as developing electric two-wheelers in India for both domestic and overseas markets.

Its official website currently lists operations across India, Europe, the UK and Ireland, Nepal and Türkiye.

Higher production capacity at Hosur could therefore support exports as well as the domestic rollout of the Tesseract and future models.

The BIGGA Factory marks an important transition for Ultraviolette. The company is moving from a relatively specialised performance-EV manufacturer towards a broader electric-mobility business capable of producing several hundred thousand vehicles annually.

If the planned capacity is progressively commissioned, the Hosur plant could become one of the key manufacturing bases behind an Indian EV company attempting to combine home-grown engineering, advanced electronics and high-volume production for global markets.
