Rozgar Mela Provides Appointment Letters to 51,000 Youth as Government Highlights Employment Initiatives

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated through video conferencing in the 20th Rozgar Mela, organised at 45 locations across the country, and distributed appointment letters to more than 51,000 newly recruited youth joining various Central Government departments and organisations.

At the Chennai venue held at D.G. Vaishnav College, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, distributed appointment letters to 285 newly recruited candidates selected for different Central Government ministries, departments and organisations.

The newly appointed candidates will join key institutions including the Income Tax Department, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Defence, Department of Posts, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), and Southern Railway.

New Recruits Encouraged to Serve Citizens With Responsibility

Addressing the gathering, Dr. L. Murugan said that the newly recruited government employees would play an important role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He urged the recruits to view government service not only as a career opportunity but also as a responsibility to contribute towards national development.

The Minister stated that an appointment letter represents an opportunity to serve the nation and that government employees act as representatives of the administration while interacting directly with citizens.

He emphasised that qualities such as honesty, accountability, empathy and a citizen-centric approach should remain fundamental to public service.

Government Schemes and Employment Opportunities

Dr. L. Murugan highlighted that flagship initiatives such as Make in India, Start-up India, Stand-up India and the MUDRA loan scheme have encouraged young Indians to become entrepreneurs and job creators alongside seeking employment opportunities.

He stated that the unemployment rate had declined from 6 per cent to 3.2 per cent, attributing the change to various initiatives undertaken by the Government.

The Minister also highlighted the expansion of India’s startup ecosystem, stating that the number of startups has increased from around 400 in 2014 to more than 2.5 lakh, with many young entrepreneurs below the age of 30 leading new ventures.

Focus on Skills, Technology and Emerging Sectors

The Union Minister stressed the importance of continuous learning, technological adaptation and regular skill development to remain competitive in a rapidly changing economy.

He highlighted the expanding opportunities for youth in emerging fields such as space technology and atomic energy, while also noting the increasing participation of women in diverse sectors including space, defence, education, governance and public administration.

Dr. Murugan added that more than 12.75 lakh appointment letters have been distributed through Rozgar Melas so far, reflecting the government’s focus on expanding employment opportunities for young Indians.

Education Opportunities for Underprivileged Students

Later, while interacting with the media, Dr. L. Murugan highlighted the role of Navodaya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu in providing quality education opportunities to students from economically weaker sections.

He said that these schools support learning in students’ mother tongues while also encouraging exposure to various Indian languages and broader educational opportunities.

The Chennai Rozgar Mela event was attended by Shri Sunil Bajpai, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, along with senior officials, newly recruited employees and their families.
