Wholesales of passenger vehicles in India rose by 26.45% to 2,72,027 units in September as compared to 2,15,124 units in the same month last year, SIAM said on Friday.
Two-wheeler sales also rose 11.64% to 18,49,546 units, compared with 16,56,658 units in the same month last year, according to the latest data from the Society of Indian Car Manufacturers (SIAM).
Compared to 10,43,621 units in September 2019, motorcycle sales were 12,24,117 units, up 17.3%.
Scooter sales were also slightly up from 5,55,754 units in the same month last year, at 5,56,205 units. In the July-September 2020 quarter, sales of passenger vehicles increased 17.02% from 6,20,620 units in the same period of the last fiscal year to 7,26,232 units.
During the September quarter of this fiscal year, two-wheeler sales increased marginally to 46,90,565 units, compared with 46,82,571 units in the same period last fiscal year.
Nonetheless, in the quarter under review, commercial vehicle sales saw a decrease of 20.13% to 1,33,524 units compared to 1,67,173 units in July-September 2019. During the second quarter, sales of vehicles across categories decreased marginally to 55,96,223 units as compared with 56,51,459 units in the same timeframe of the previous fiscal year.
