NTPC Green Energy Limited has added 153.94 MW of commercial solar capacity at the Kalasar Solar Energy Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, as NTPC Renewable Energy Limited continues phased commissioning of the large renewable energy development.
The new capacity comprises a 73.06 MW second part and an 80.88 MW third part, both declared commercially operational from 00:00 hours on October 1, 2026. NTPC disclosed the development through its corporate announcement dated September 30.
Kalasar Project Reaches 235.28 MW of Commissioned Capacity
The latest addition follows the commissioning of the project’s first 81.34 MW portion on September 26. Together, the three commissioned sections take operational capacity at Kalasar to 235.28 MW.
Kalasar is being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy, and forms part of the 650 MW solar component of the 500 MW REMCL round-the-clock renewable energy project. NTPC’s project-status data currently shows 568.66 MW of the 650 MW Kalasar project under construction, reflecting the phased execution of the balance capacity.
NTPC Green Energy Group Capacity Rises to 11,212.51 MW
With the 153.94 MW addition, the NTPC Green Energy group’s capacity increased from 11,058.57 MW to 11,212.51 MW. The company’s exchange filing records this as the new installed capacity following commercial operation of the second and third Kalasar sections.
The commissioning strengthens NTPC Green Energy’s expanding utility-scale renewable portfolio at a time when the group is advancing large solar and wind projects across Rajasthan, Gujarat and other states.
Part of NTPC’s Round-the-Clock Renewable Strategy
The Kalasar development is linked to NTPC’s broader effort to supply renewable electricity through round-the-clock power configurations, which combine large renewable generation portfolios with system-level balancing arrangements to provide more reliable power than standalone intermittent projects.
For NTPC Green Energy, projects such as Kalasar are important because they convert awarded renewable capacity into commercially operating assets in stages, allowing generation to begin even while the remainder of a large project continues toward completion.
The latest commissioning therefore represents another measurable addition to NTPC’s renewable fleet while moving the 650 MW Kalasar solar development further toward full commercial operation.
