UK-based consumer technology company Nothing has announced a strategic manufacturing partnership with India’s Optiemus Infracom to expand smartphone production and strengthen its presence in the Indian electronics ecosystem.
The joint venture will involve an investment of more than $100 million over three years and is expected to create over 1,800 jobs in India. The partnership aims to expand manufacturing capabilities while supporting the development of a stronger local ecosystem for smartphones and connected devices.
India Becomes a Major Manufacturing Base for Nothing
Nothing has identified India as one of its most important markets and manufacturing locations since entering the smartphone segment.
The company has already invested more than $200 million in India and operates manufacturing facilities in the country, including a Chennai-based facility that produces Nothing smartphones.
The new partnership with Optiemus Infracom is expected to further expand production capacity and strengthen India’s role in Nothing’s global manufacturing strategy.
Optiemus Brings Indian Electronics Manufacturing Expertise
The partnership brings together Nothing’s product development capabilities with Optiemus Infracom’s experience in electronics manufacturing.
Based in Noida, Optiemus is involved in manufacturing electronic products for global technology companies and has experience in smartphone and consumer electronics production.
The collaboration is intended to support large-scale manufacturing while increasing India’s participation in the global electronics supply chain.
CMF to Build Global Operations From India
Alongside the manufacturing expansion, Nothing’s independent affordable technology brand CMF will establish India as its global base for research, development and manufacturing.
CMF was launched by Nothing as a more accessible consumer technology brand covering smartphones, audio products and other connected devices.
The company said the India-based operations will support CMF’s ambition to develop products for global markets while leveraging India’s engineering talent, manufacturing ecosystem and growing consumer technology sector.
Focus Moves Beyond Assembly Towards Product Development
The expansion represents a broader shift in India’s electronics sector from manufacturing for global brands towards developing stronger domestic capabilities in design, engineering and innovation.
Modern smartphone manufacturing requires expertise across hardware engineering, software optimisation, supply-chain management, testing and product development.
By expanding research and development activities alongside manufacturing, Nothing and CMF aim to build deeper capabilities within India’s technology ecosystem.
India’s Smartphone Manufacturing Ecosystem Continues to Grow
India has become one of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturing centres, supported by government initiatives, electronics manufacturing investments and a growing supplier network.
The country has attracted investments from global technology companies while encouraging greater localisation of components, manufacturing processes and technical skills.
The Nothing-Optiemus partnership adds another layer to this ecosystem by combining an international consumer technology brand with Indian manufacturing expertise.
New Partnership Supports Future Consumer Technology Growth
The joint venture between Nothing and Optiemus represents a significant expansion of the company’s long-term commitment to India.
With increased manufacturing capacity, employment generation and a stronger focus on research and development, the partnership highlights India’s growing importance in the global consumer electronics industry.
As smartphone and connected-device markets continue to evolve, such collaborations can help strengthen India’s position as both a manufacturing destination and an emerging hub for technology innovation.
