Nagaland got its first state-of-the-art Food laboratory at State Public Health Laboratory in Kohima on Tuesday.
The Food Lab was inaugurated by Principal Secretary cum Commissioner Food Safety of Department of Health and Family Welfare, I. Himato Zhimomi.
The State Food Laboratory is being upgraded to level-2 laboratory which is first in the entire Northeast.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Himato said equipments of the state food laboratory are of the highest and latest quality with an objective to reach out the public to a larger scale and with ease.
He said any entrepreneurs in food business and vendors can visit the laboratory to test their products before selling their products in the market.
Himato also warned those who do not comply with the safety of food procedures will face penalty. He said for too long people felt that food safety is not an important sector but it is a preventive issue.
Stating that the state Public Health Laboratory has an enormous task despite shortage of man power, Himato said the officers and staff should work zealously and let the public become aware on the importance of the State Food Laboratory.
Meanwhile, Principal Director cum Additional Commissioner Food Safety, Dr Vikeyie Losu said it is a proud moment for the department to have one of the unique and first to establish a high end laboratory, which no other neighbouring states have established.
