Koo, an Indian social media platform, became the first social media firm in the country to release a report on social media compliance as needed by the rules.
The company stated, “In agreement with ‘Rule 4(d)’ of the of the Government of India’s Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, Koo has become the first Indian social media platform to release a social media compliance report as required by the Rules.”
The company announced that going forward, it plans to publish the compliance report on the first day of each month.
The June 2021 report indicates that of the 5,502 Koos (who do not comply with GoI guidelines) registered by the community; 22.7% (1,253) were eliminated, while for the rest 4,249, other action was taken. Similarly, Koo initiated to proactively balance 54,235 Koos, of which 2.2% (1,996) were eliminated while for the remaining 52,239, other action. ‘Other action’ involves warm, ignore, overlay, blur, etc.
Google also released its compliance report today. Between April 1, 2021, and April 30, 2021, the company collected 27,762 complaints, of which 26,707 or 96% of the complaints were associated with copyright. Earlier this week, Facebook stated that it would release its first monthly report on July 2, 2021.
